The sport karate community has a lot to celebrate! We are proud to congratulate Mr. Mike Welch on his appointment to the NASKA Board of Directors!

Mike has dedicated years to growing and developing sport karate, both on and off the competition floor. As one of the founding members of the Wisconsin Sport Karate League (WSKL), he plays an important role in supporting competitors, bringing the martial arts community together, and helping create outstanding tournament experiences throughout the region.

His impact on the sport goes beyond tournament leadership. As one of the owners of Infinity Martial Arts, Mike has coached and developed talented martial artists, choreographed team demonstrations, and helped lead Team Infinity to many championships.

From developing athletes and building teams to helping strengthen the tournament circuit, Mike's contributions reflect a lasting commitment to the growth of sport karate and the people who make it special. Now, Mike brings that experience and perspective to the NASKA Board, where he will have an opportunity to contribute to the continued growth and future of sport karate on an even broader scale.

Congratulations, Mr. Welch! Thank you for your continued dedication to the sport, the athletes, and the martial arts community. This is an exciting and well-deserved next chapter!

At Infinity, students who are ready to compete train as part of Infini-Team and eventually, Team Infinity.

This is our competition program - where athletes develop the speed, precision, tactical awareness, and mental toughness required to perform at sanctioned sport karate tournaments.

What competition training looks like:
- Sparring drills at competition speed - footwork patterns, counter-attack sequences, distance management under pressure.
- Forms refinement - taking the base sequence apart piece by piece until every transition, every chamber, every strike is competition-ready.
- Simulated competition environments - timed rounds, judges, the pressure of performing when it counts.
- Mental preparation - learning to handle a loss, come back from a deficit, and compete with composure regardless of the score.

Every athlete on Team Infinity started as a beginner.
Every single one.
The question is not whether your child is ready now. The question is whether you want to build toward this.

Every October, we open up beginner spots for families who have been curious about sport karate but have not made the move yet.

Here is what a free first class at Infinity looks like:
You arrive and a coach greets your child by name.
They join a class built for beginners - age-appropriate, welcoming, and immediately engaging.

They try sparring footwork drills and get their first taste of form movement sequences.
After class, a coach sits down with you. Here is what I noticed. Here is what they are good at. Here is what we would work on.

No sales pressure. No obligation. Just a really good first hour.

Most people watch a kumite match and see two athletes throwing kicks.
Here is what is actually happening inside that match:

Your child is reading their opponent - tracking distance, movement patterns, and openings in real time.

They are executing a game plan while adjusting it on the fly.
They are managing their emotional state under pressure - staying composed when they are behind on points.
They are making split-second decisions with real consequences.

This is exactly the kind of pressure inoculation that builds mental performance in every other area of life.
The student who can stay calm in a sparring match when they are down by one point is the same student who can stay calm in a test, a college interview, a high-pressure job moment.

We are not just training karate at Infinity.

What a great week at IMA Middleton! We are sure keeping busy during the month of October with community events and activities. This week, we had the honor of donating some flu-prevention supplies to our elementary schools as we kick off the fall season!
