Today is Women in Robotics Day, and we're celebrating the girls and young women in robotics at BadgerBots.

On our youth robotics teams, girls in grades 4 through 12 design, build and code real robots and solve complex engineering problems. Many of them first discovered robotics at a BadgerBots STEAM camp when they were younger. We work to spark that interest early because getting girls into STEM at a young age builds skills and confidence and makes them more likely to pursue STEM careers.

That's why our camps and workshops start as early as kindergarten. We're proud to have women instructors leading many of our camps, where they serve as role models for younger girls. And it's why we created GIRL-BOTS, a LEGO robotics camp just for girls and taught by girls.

That's what our volunteers built on Saturday so FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge teams (grades 4-8) across Wisconsin have the robot mission models they need for tournament season.

Thank you to our FTC and FRC robotics students and the parents and coaches who spent the day building 12 entire FLL Challenge sets. Teams from around the state will benefit from your hard work!

Please help us welcome Cat Shehan, BadgerBots' new FIRST® LEGO® League and Outreach Coordinator! Cat brings a background in science, teaching and community outreach, plus a strong commitment to making STEAM accessible for every kid. She'll be helping to grow youth robotics across Wisconsin and bringing hands-on STEAM activities into our communities.

Building the future of STEM starts with training the mentors who can make it happen. That training happened last weekend, when a cohort of parents spent 15 hours with us learning how to coach a FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge team. FLL Challenge is a competitive robotics program for grades 4-8.

These new coaches will lead five new FLL Challenge teams, joining two returning teams for seven total teams at BadgerBots this season!

Teams met for the first time this week, and they’re already coming up with some pretty fun team names.

Save your child's spot for Secrets of Badger Hollow Laboratory: A BadgerBots STEAM Adventure, a new School Day Off Camp on Oct. 30!

Something mysterious has happened at Badger Hollow Laboratory and we need your child's help to figure it out! Campers will become STEAM investigators as they explore a series of hands-on challenges, puzzles and experiments to uncover clues and solve the mystery. Each challenge will bring campers one step closer to solving the mystery!

Don't miss our live robot demonstrations at the Middleton Good Neighbor Festival tomorrow! Saturday, 8/29 from 10:45 am until 1 pm. We'll be stationed by the MHS south entrance, next to the Middleton Library Book Mobile.

Three of our robotics teams will show off their robots, and teammates will be on hand to answer questions about what it's like to be on a team and what robotics opportunities exist for kids of all ages.
