The Middleton Optimist Club was honored to welcome the leaders of Boy Scout Troop 940 to its breakfast meeting at Community CoWorks on August 12, 2026.

Scoutmaster David Kussow and his son, Senior Patrol Leader Alex Kussow, provided an update on the many activities that the troop engages in throughout the year. With an ongoing "Focus on Service", the group has two cleanup sessions at Lakeview Park, they perform "Scouting for Food" in support of WayForward Resources, they place flags around the community on 9/11 and they provide comprehensive volunteer support during the Good Neighbor Festival .

Troop 940's monthly outings typically include a mix of rafting, biking, camping and hiking. "High Adventure" trips will take them to Florida, the Bahamas and New Mexico for mountain climbing (12,400 feet!) and other challenging activities. Winter camping near the Boundary Waters was an experience as temperatures reached -27 degrees.

Summer camps near Rhinelander offer ziplining, climbing towers, kayaking, archery and more.

The Troop received a $1,000.00 donation from the Optimist Club. They are grateful to the community for its support of their annual popcorn fundraiser.

(Special note: the Scoutmaster for Troop 940 over many decades was Ron Berman, our former member who passed away last year.)

🎣 Cops and Bobbers Weather Update

Due to the predicted weather, the Optimist Club has decided to cancel Cops and Bobbers. We’re disappointed to miss a day of fishing and fun with you, but look forward to casting our lines together in the spring!

The event will be rescheduled for spring, with a new date shared once plans are finalized. Thank you for your understanding! 💙

Due to inclement weather this event, planned for Saturday, September 19th, has been cancelled. Because the park needs to be reserved well in advance, we are unable to host an alternate date this year.

We hope to see you next Spring, when the event will be held again. Date to be determined; watch for it!

Cops & Bobbers is back — and we’re officially putting out an APB for young anglers!

Join us at Lakeview Park on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 8 a.m. to noon for a FREE morning of fishing, family fun, and maybe a little friendly competition.

🎣 First 150 kids age 15 & under get a FREE fishing rod, reel, and bobber!
🏆 Big fish, little fish & other contests and prizes
📚 Free books for kids from the Middleton Public Library while supplies last
🚐 Visit the Library Bookmobile
🐟 Bring your own fishing gear if you’ve already got a favorite setup
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 All ages welcome — everyone is invited!

No fishing experience? No problem. Come cast a line, hang out by the water, and see what bites.

Our S’Mores are becoming legend! We are and love supporting Middleton’s Parks and Rec. How lucky are we??
