Don't leave your shotgun tube loaded with the same rounds for extended periods. This is what happens---shells eventually deform (and split) from the spring pressure and may not feed. Swap them out every few months if you keep a shotgun for home defense---and never store it with a round loaded in the chamber (shotguns are not drop safe).
