Our Aug. 11, 2026 meeting. We didn’t wear hats, but the place settings, dahlias, lovely Victorian home, and the hostesses made this meeting especially sweet.

Our president, Donna Smith, hosted the club & gave us needed instructions on finding the perfect flower for the horticulture category in flower shows. We learned that a “collection” of plants must have at least 5 specimens. I see a flower show in our future!

The 250th July 4th parade brought floats and fun to the Middlesborough Garden Club. Despite rain, which postponed the parade, our hard working, joy-making bunch came together to build a float that features some ever evolving basic pieces and the creativity and hard work of Barbara Partin.

MGC President Donna Smith created a performative bouquet with a tall American flag centered between her Martha Washington and Martha's body guard, Kirby.

Garden Club members served as Secret Service, surrounding the float with red white and blue.

Happy Birthday America, "land that I love."

The Middlesborough Garden Club celebrated Garden Club Week was June 7- 12. On Monday, some of our ladies gathered with Mayor Boone Bowling to declare the Garden Club Week for Middlesborough.

Tuesday some intrepid members gathered at our Victorian Garden and planted flowers around the fountain, ably assisted by Robert Green.

Wednesday found Sharon, Donna and Sarah planting the Urns at the Levitt AMP Middlesboro Music Series lot.

Thursday was our regular meeting with Donna presenting a program about making bouquets with summer flowers.

Friday found Sarah and Donna planting another American Chestnut Tree at St. Mary's Episcopal Church.

Using the week to add flowers to our city was a perfect way to celebrate our holiday.

On Friday, May 22, 2026 we met at Laurel Cove Amphitheater to continue our long and lovely tradition of making bouquets for all the queens, princesses and mini-princesses - over 80.

This year rain and wetness kept us inside the cabin on the hill, but we still enjoyed good company, great food and our own special mountain laurel flowers.

On Monday, April 27, 2026 our garden club visited Heather Lawson's Town Creek hydroponics near Harrogate in Speedwell. The greenhouse was amazing; large, well-organized and neat as a pin. Heather explained the rotation process of moving plants through different water channels, with larger separation between holes to allow for plant growth.

If you want to buy any of this beautiful lettuce, go to Harrogate Plant and Produce behind Hardee's in Harrogate. They have foodtrucks there, too.

Afterwards, our secretary, Patsy Barnett gave us a tour of the Lustron home she recently refurbished and redecorated. Lustron homes were built just after WWII and they are made completely of metal, inside and out. April 18, 2026 found Ann, Shari and I on an adventure to Knoxville. We ran errands, ate some great tamales at "Good Golly Tamale" in the Old City. Then we drove to Gatop, (God's Answer to Our Prayers), a private garden open to the the public one weekend a year during The Dogwood Festival. It is beautiful. What do you think?
