🌲Happy Arbor Day from Roy-Hart FFA 🌳
Each year Roy-Hart FFA, Middle School Green Team and Elementary School Green Team celebrate Arbor Day by hi-lighting environmental stewardship and planting trees on our school campus and in our community.
At the Village of Middleport Tree Planting Ceremony, FFA Officer Adam Yanicki shared the following speech:
“The first Arbor Day was celebrated in Nebraska in 1872. The holiday was established as a way to encourage farmers and homesteaders to plant trees. Although some of us may not be farmers or homesteaders, and some farmers and homesteaders seem to have forgotten, we need to realize the importance of trees of all species.
Each tree fills a niche, if you want a shade tree you could plant a maple or an oak. If you were looking for a tree that could provide food for native wildlife and potentially your family, your choice might be something like a black cherry. Every tree serves a purpose, from building our homes, to heating our homes, to feeding our families, the possibilities are almost endless.
I encourage everyone here to plant at least one tree if you can, I’m not sure where the saying really originated from but there’s a saying that goes a bit like this “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, but the second best time is now.” I want to thank all of you for being here to celebrate Arbor Day!”
