Every visitor to the Middlebury College Snowbowl has driven past the historic Hubbard Cabin, and generations of alumni have enjoyed it as a cozy respite from the cold during a day on the slopes. Over the years, it served many purposes—from ski lodge and office space to storage to housing for Rikert managers—before falling into disrepair and no longer being used after 2003.

Now, after a short journey across the Snowbowl grounds, the log structure has a new home between Starr Lodge and the snowmaking pond. After some restoration work and a new addition, this humble structure built in 1938 with local spruce by members of the Middlebury Winter Sports Club, will return to service as the headquarters for the Middlebury ski teams.

Battell Hall has housed first-year students since the 1950s and holds many memories and traditions at Middlebury. We are pausing to reflect on those times as we prepare for the building's removal to make way for the new arts quad and future Marna O. Davis Art Museum on the north side of campus.

🗣️ We want to hear from you: What are your favorite moments and memories from your time living in Battell Hall? Drop them in the comments, send us a DM, or an email to [email protected]. We want to see your photos, too!

We may use your reflections and photos in an upcoming story.
