This coming Sunday, July 18th, at 11:00 a.m. ESDT, our colleague Viola Huang (Universität Passau) will give a lecture on the history of "Schwarze Menschen in Deutschland" via Zoom. What a summer! Five months ago, we thought that we would do "just another German School" in Vermont. An hour ago, we closed our first-ever online German School. It has been intense, and I am sure we all had moments when we simply didn't want to turn on our computers. But what all of you students have done this summer is so much more than learn German well and work with us: you have shown such solidarity, integrity and also joy and have made this crazy experiment as easy as it could possibly be. I don't want to forego your and future students' presence on campus if I can help it, but there is no choice right now, and you managed to make me forget at times that we weren't all in the same space together. And that shows the spirit of our School and why I will love it until I drop dead.

As quickly as it came, it went! Tomorrow is the last day of the German School 2020, and we won't let the virtual distance stop us from looking back and celebrating all that has been accomplished this summer! And like every summer, we especially look forward to finding out what our new virtual friends *really* sound like in English for the first time!

Our first Zoom Theater project--I couldn't wish for a more dedicated, fun, and creative cast with whom to do an abbreviated (Zoom) version of Kleist's "Der zerbrochene Krug"!
