My son first convinced me to enroll in the Middlebury School of Russian. His plan was to do Italian level 1, and I would do Russian level 2. He ended up not enrolling, but I have come to Middlebury the last four summers and just finished level 5. I had previously studied Russian 68 years ago in high school. It was a thrill to be learning again in a challenging, supportive academic environment, and on a gorgeous campus at that. I had taken all of this for granted in my undergraduate years, but I now full well understood what a great privilege I was enjoying.

Sam Bell did both the Middlebury Master’s in Teaching (MAT) with Licensure AND the Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF). Sam studied in Vermont for two 6-week summers, completed 4 classes online (while living in Fécamp, France with TAPIF), and is now completing his Teaching Practicum for the fall. www.middlebury.edu/language-schools/blog

“TAPIF and Language Schools have made teaching in French a breeze. My mentor commented on how my accent and fluency have dramatically improved since doing these programs. Middlebury has given me the skills to teach, and TAPIF has given me the experiences to make French real for my students.”

“Put your pride in your back pocket for 7 weeks. Ask questions early and often. Take naps.” That’s the advice of retired Army veteran Karen Luisi after seven weeks of studying Spanish at Middlebury. Immersion challenged her, surprised her, and helped her connect more deeply with the Spanish-speaking community around her.
