🌏Model U.N., Mock Trial, and MUHS clubs are a few of the workshops 6th graders explored at our annual ACSD Youth Citizen Summit! Students also got a taste of the many ways they can take action in their town with workshops from community members. They traveled to Middlebury College and heard from keynote speakers, environmentalist Bill McKibben, and Special Olympics and Best Buddies ambassador Lucy Meyers who was presented with a portrait by Robert Shetterly.

🎨 🍁 6th grade students collaborated on a vibrant portrait project thanks to Ms. Maggio where they learned about portraiture and talked about what makes Vermont so special! At their upcoming 6th grade Citizen Summit, they will meet portrait artist, Robert Shetterly, who created portraits of courageous Americans. With Ms. Maggio’s artistic expertise and support they began a collaborative portrait project where they are coloring and writing positive affirmations on the portraits of 4 famous Vermonters. 🔨🎮 🍁 Our 8th graders had a hands-on tour of the courses they can take next year as 9th graders at ! They got to test drive drones, see 3D printing in action, learn the parts of Maple Syrup Making, taste test local food, do a quick building competition, and more on their visit to classrooms in Mechanical Science, Intro to STEM, Intro to Agriculture, Visual Communications, and Work Based Learning. These are all courses they can consider in their schedule for next year. If families want to learn more, has an open house tomorrow!

🪏🔍🦴Students in Archeology club had an amazing opportunity to meet and talk to Dr. Donald Johanson, the paleoanthropologist who discovered the skull of Lucy, a 3.2 million year old female skeleton in 1974 in Ethiopia. Ms. Cosgrove, the Archeology Club advisor worked with students to prepare for the meeting. They asked great questions, saw replicas of the bones he found, and heard how it felt the moment he made this tremendous discovery and how it has impacted his life and his field of work since!

🌱🐞 Students in 6th grade science are investigating living and nonliving parts of our ecosystem. Ms. Holderness brought bushels of basil and students explored the animals and plants in the MUMS outdoor classroom.
