Red Clover Children's Center is a child care center for infants and toddlers in Middlebury, VT.

At the Red Clover Children's Center (RCCC) our philosophy is that play is children’s work. We are committed to the care of infants and toddlers that respects diverse culture, lifestyles, preferences, abilities, learning styles and needs of children and families in a safe and healthy environment. At RCCC, we believe that children develop physically, cognitively, socially and emotionally through play-based learning and our teachers will nurture and encourage the developmental growth of each child through observation and interactive teaching. The role of our teachers is to be secure and supportive mentors who form empathetic connections with each child and our teachers will guide them to their potential while setting healthy limits. We provide children with classrooms that are comfortable and homelike where they are safe and free to explore. The RCCC will be housed within the Congregational Church of Middlebury, United Church of Christ (MiddUCC), but the church will not oversee or manage the RCCC. However, the RCCC Director as well as staff and Board members will coordinate and communicate closely with MiddUCC leadership to ensure a positive and productive sharing of the mutual space so that both entities’ needs are met.

This morning, the Honey Bees explored painting using watercolors and styrofoam balls! While the activity began with containers of watercolor paint and paintbrushes, the children each took their own unique path for engaging with the materials. Some preferred to dip the balls into the paint cups, while others wanted to roll them around on the tray. Dumping and pouring the paints also became part of the fun! One child even noticed how the watercolor paint on the tray reflected the objects above. Multiple senses were engaged as children rubbed the styrofoam together, exploring both texture and sound. This activity involved fine motor skills (grasping and holding the paintbrushes), encouraged creativity and artistry, and allowed for sensory exploration of liquid and solid materials. 🖌️

💐🌼This invitation in the Firefly classroom sparked so much thoughtful and imaginative play as children transformed our classroom into a bustling flower shop! They carefully selected bouquets, arranged flowers in vases, watered plants, cared for baby dolls with fresh blooms, rang the bell for customers, exchanged play money, and worked together to create meaningful stories!

Through open-ended play, the children explored kindness, communication, collaboration, and creativity, showing us that even the simplest materials can blossom into rich learning experiences🌼💐
