The tradition continues! It was a beautiful morning for our annual “Ride your Pony to School Day." Over 30 students rode their ponies from Stonehedge Farm through the Virginia Tech Middleburg Agricultural Research and Extension Center by the Dornin Science Center, to the Ampitheater at Hill School. Special thanks to Jane & Andrew Bishop, the Mare Center, the many trainers, and the parents for making this possible.

In the all-school assembly Head of School Treavor Lord and our students welcome our Guatemalan visitors who are staying with Hill School families through the Faces & Our Cultures program. The students will participate in all parts of Hill School’s program with their class, (including being part the 8th grade play)!

Feel the excitement of science class at the Dornin Science Center as our 4th graders dig up the potatoes that the current 5th grade class planted last spring. In the spring of 2024 these 4th graders will plant potatoes for the next year’s class to harvest!

On June 8, 2023 Hill School’s first Kindergarten teacher, Molly deButts Spencer passed away. Molly began teaching at Hill in 1970 and went on to teach Kindergarten for 31 years. She was named Faculty Emerita in 1999. Molly was a passionate educator with the unique ability to understand how children saw the world. She had a lasting impact on decades of alumni of the school. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Friday, September 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Upperville, Virginia with a reception following at Buchanan Hall. All are welcome! (Molly is pictured here with one of her early classes, Head of School Treavor Lord, and Faculty Emeriti Worthy Caulk, and Robert Dornin, Sr.)

It has been a fun-filled week for campers in “Olivia” camp which is based on Ian Falconer’s books. Campers have participated in a variety of activities that Olivia does in the books --including starting a band, saving a circus and even being a spy!

Enjoy a free concert by Martin and Kelly on the lawn of the National Sporting Library & Museum. The concert and museum admission are free and open to the public from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The Secretariat Racing into History sculpture will be on display in front of the Library!
