The tradition continues! It was a beautiful morning for our annual “Ride your Pony to School Day." Over 30 students rode their ponies from Stonehedge Farm through the Virginia Tech Middleburg Agricultural Research and Extension Center by the Dornin Science Center, to the Ampitheater at Hill School. Special thanks to Jane & Andrew Bishop, the Mare Center, the many trainers, and the parents for making this possible.

In the all-school assembly Head of School Treavor Lord and our students welcome our Guatemalan visitors who are staying with Hill School families through the Faces & Our Cultures program. The students will participate in all parts of Hill School’s program with their class, (including being part the 8th grade play)!
Congratulations to our Varsity Boys Soccer team on their win at their final home game, yesterday. They were down at half time but worked hard in the second half for a victory.
Our Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten students have been learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin. Last week they traveled to Wayside Farm Fun to explore the pumpkin patch in person and have a little fun too! # bestofloudoun .

Feel the excitement of science class at the Dornin Science Center as our 4th graders dig up the potatoes that the current 5th grade class planted last spring. In the spring of 2024 these 4th graders will plant potatoes for the next year’s class to harvest!
In their Dornin Lab program first graders learned about insects by finding them on campus and then making clay replicas to understand insect anatomy.

On June 8, 2023 Hill School’s first Kindergarten teacher, Molly deButts Spencer passed away. Molly began teaching at Hill in 1970 and went on to teach Kindergarten for 31 years. She was named Faculty Emerita in 1999. Molly was a passionate educator with the unique ability to understand how children saw the world. She had a lasting impact on decades of alumni of the school. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Friday, September 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Upperville, Virginia with a reception following at Buchanan Hall. A big welcome to students in Kiddie camp where JK and Kindergarten students meet their teachers, make new friends and get familiarized with Hill School before the start of the year.
It has been a fun-filled week for campers in “Olivia” camp which is based on Ian Falconer’s books. Campers have participated in a variety of activities that Olivia does in the books --including starting a band, saving a circus and even being a spy!

Enjoy a free concert by Martin and Kelly on the lawn of the National Sporting Library & Museum. The concert and museum admission are free and open to the public from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The Secretariat Racing into History sculpture will be on display in front of the Library!

This summer in nature camp with Mrs. McCaskey, campers made boats and raced them on Goose Creek.

Inspired by our all-school culture study of Ireland when we learned about the wee folk of Ireland, Mrs. Emerick and the Wee Folk Campers explore the woodlands and meadows of Hill School in search of gnomes, who are believed to be the caretakers of animals and plants life of the forests. , ,
Creative Juices were flowing in Builders Camp. .
Aladdin and Hip Hop Campers are having a great time learning both hip hop & jazz styles of dance. They also made Genie and Princess Jasmine puppets, a hip hop boom box, and designed their own t-shirts for the parent performance!
Another good skill to have--campers learn how to make cordage using cattail leaves in Nature Camp.

Campers work together in Stop Motion Camp using a variety of materials including clay, small toys, things in nature, and art supplies to make short films. We look forward to seeing the finished product!
In outdoor adventure camp with Mrs. Dornin, campers are learning how to build shelters, fires, and rafts.
In Nature camp, campers explored different habitats on campus, and discovered the tiniest of frogs.
On Friday, campers came in costume for their final magical day in FairyTales, Fables, & Fun Camp.
Little Mermaid shell frames, fairy house buildings, and classic Disney Movies in Fairy Tale, Fables, and Fun camp.
Photography campers explore compositions outdoors and indoors, in search of dramatic landscape shots and close-ups.
