It’s Banned Books Week!

Did you know that Clay County School District has been recognized as a national leader and top district for school book removals and restrictions?

We wondered: How many books in Clay County have been challenged, do NOT violate Florida Statute, but are still “removed from all student access by School Board decision”? 🤔

Shouldn’t each parent get to decide what is appropriate for their own child?

Happy World Teachers’ Day!

Today, October 5, we celebrate World Teachers’ Day, a day established by UNESCO to recognize the vital role teachers play in shaping the lives of students and building the future.

Teaching is so much more than lessons, grades, and standards. It’s encouraging a child who doesn’t believe in themselves, celebrating the small victories, creating a safe place to learn, and showing up day after day—even when the job is hard.

To every teacher who stays late, buys supplies, answers one more question, gives one more chance, and pours their heart into their students: you matter, and the work you do matters.

Today, celebrate the teachers who have made a difference in your life—and if you’re a teacher, take a moment to be proud of the difference you make every single day.

What happens to a neighborhood when its public school starts losing funding?

Fewer programs. Underused buildings. Fewer resources for the families who remain.

As this former professor explains, education decisions don’t stop at the schoolhouse door. They shape entire neighborhoods, and the futures of the children who live there.

So this November, do your homework. Look past the slogans. Study the facts. Then vote with our kids and communities in mind.

Elections have consequences. Make education a PRIORITY at the ballot box in November!

The state often claims “record investment” in teacher pay, but the truth is that Florida's educators earn about $15,000 LESS than they did 28 years ago.

For three decades, Florida's leaders have disinvested in public schools. This November, we have a chance to demand change.

This week was Celebrate Freedom Week!

Section 1003.421, F.S., establishes Celebrate Freedom Week the last full week of September in our public schools. The law calls for students to learn about the sacrifices made for freedom during the founding of our country and the principles and values on which our country was founded.

What have you been doing in your classroom to recognize our nation’s Founders and the ideas that shaped the United States?

Let’s celebrate the work Florida teachers are doing to bring history and civics to life for our students! 🍎
