Tonight, reconnect with your Montessori professional community at MINT’s free 3–6 Professional Learning Community meetup.

Sara Wyer and Sarah Messmore will lead a conversation on “Planning for a Successful Year” for Ages 3-6. Together, the group will explore planning tools and strategies, share ideas, and consider how the intentional work done now can lay the foundation for meaningful experiences in the Casa throughout the year.

Professional learning led by AMI Trainers and Trainers-in-Training can be difficult to access. MINT’s PLC series is designed to help break down those barriers by offering these gatherings free and online. For tonight’s meetup, Sara is sharing the Zoom link directly, so no registration is needed. Join from anywhere in the world.

Join us tonight, September 2, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. CT. The Zoom link is in the first comment.

The Montessori classroom is intentionally designed to support deep, focused exploration—and one powerful way it does this is by isolating individual senses. As Dr. Montessori wrote, “If one sense is isolated, it seems to be enhanced in its power of perception… It is the concentration of the conscious mind upon that sense.”

When children work with sensorial materials, they are not just learning to sort colors or match textures. They are refining their ability to observe, compare, and make subtle distinctions. Each material isolates one quality, such as weight, temperature, sound, or shape, allowing the child to concentrate fully on that particular aspect of their environment.

This careful design supports both cognitive and sensory development. It helps children move from concrete experiences to abstract thinking, and it lays a strong foundation for scientific observation, language, and mathematics.

By encouraging this kind of focused attention, Montessori materials nurture the child’s natural curiosity, support the development of the whole mind, and invite a deeper connection with the world around them.

Preparing a snack may seem like a simple task, but in the Montessori classroom, it's an important Practical Life activity that builds independence, confidence, and responsibility. 🍎

As children prepare healthy snacks, serve themselves and their classmates, and clean up afterward, they strengthen fine motor skills, practice concentration, and develop a sense of pride in caring for themselves and their community. These everyday moments help build lifelong skills—one snack at a time.
