Chamberlain International School is a Therapeutic Boarding School and Day School for students ages 11-22. Since 1976 the beliefs of our Founders who are still here on a daily basis continue on. It is what guides us each and every day with each and every individual student and that mission is to provide comprehensive and intensive therapeutic programming in an environment which inspires academic su
ccess and personal growth. We motivate and support our students throughout their school experience and teach them to recognize, nurture and celebrate their individual strengths as they prepare for life. We see the brightness and uniqueness in all of our students and we focus our energy on developing those positive qualities and abilities. Students who attend Chamberlain can feel a sense of home on a peaceful and picturesque campus of historic buildings surrounding a traditional New England village green. The educational program embraces an individualized philosophy, where each student learns in the way s/he learns best. Our low staffing ratio allows for instruction, support, and encouragement appropriate to each student. While the curriculum is rigorous and challenging, it is also delivered in a supportive atmosphere that allows students to learn strategies and content simultaneously while building self-esteem, social skills, and confidence. Chamberlain International School’s educational program is able to accommodate many learning styles and needs. From multi-modality and project-based instruction to creative assessment of learning, the approach is designed to meet student needs. Our faculty is trained in communication, pragmatics, clinical presentation, and counseling so that they are able to offer a holistic approach to learning. Our faculty members are an eclectic mix of individuals with a wide range of experience, interest, and expertise. Teachers work collaboratively as a strong academic team and are able to highlight their own strengths through their work. They are educators of the highest quality and their enthusiasm is paramount to our success with each student. Our approach to clinical care is founded in the belief that all students are capable of enormous personal growth when they are provided with the support they need. Here, masters-level therapists meet individually on a weekly basis with students. The therapists attend daily interdisciplinary staff meetings with teachers, Student Life staff, Nursing, psychiatrists and Administration so that they have intimate knowledge of how each student in their care is doing in all aspects of student life. Therapists are part of the education program planning for each student, and they accompany them to on-campus psychiatry appointments. Chamberlain serves a diagnostically diverse student population. Our students have a wide range of learning and emotional challenges, including, but not limited to, learning disabilities, mood disorders, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Non-Verbal Learning Disorder, anxiety disorders, depression, attachment disorder, PTSD and borderline personality traits. Chamberlain International School seeks to create a home like environment in each of its nine dormitories. The Sudent Life staff work collaboratively with the other departments to ensure the individual needs of each student are being addressed. While each of the dorms has a unique design, they all follow a similar structure. The atmosphere is designed to be relaxed and calming, so that students may focus on their individualized goals, from the intricacies of effective communication and social skills, to building basic daily living skills. In addition, Student Life offers students an opportunity to experience a healthy, fun and productive lifestyle with the guidance and support of our experienced and well-trained staff. As part of our goal to build skills to guide students into adulthood, Chamberlain students learn the value of good nutrition and are taught how to budget for and prepare healthy meals. Students are encouraged to participate in a physically active schedule, through unparalleled access to activities that challenge body, heart and mind. Students have daily access to the community, enabling them to develop the necessary social skills they will need to navigate the modern world. Our aviation program is not theoretical—though it does teach a bit of physics and meteorology. Once students graduate from Chamberlain or move on to a different education setting, many continue their instruction, having acquired at Chamberlain some of the 40 hours needed to get a pilot's license. Students attend Alpha One Flight School in nearby Plymouth, Massachusetts. The ground school is relaxed, challenging, and fun. The plan of study is easy to follow and given in a lecture format. The classroom is set up with video training aids, visual aids, a navigation planning table, a computer weather station, and a full classroom for preflight and post-flight briefings. The Private Pilot Part 61 training syllabus allows students to learn at their own pace and the instructor is able to adjust the program to compliment the student pilot’s developing skills. Instruction includes the use of an FAA approved “Elite” simulator for practice on rainy days. Most students who participate in this enrichment course leave with instructional in-flight hours in their pilot's log. Chamberlain offers two courses in automotive technology. One is a life-skills course, teaching every student how to responsibly buy, rent, own, and care for a car. The other is for students with a special interest in automotive technology. This enrichment course meets every week. Students learn some basics of auto mechanics, and then move into more sophisticated knowledge through a special project that lasts throughout the school year. Chamberlain is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and Licensed by Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. Chamberlain International School is SEVIS approved by Department of Homeland Security and therefore can accept international students and issue an I-20 for their entry into the United States as a student. Learn from students with intellectual disabilities who have worked with their college or university to remove barriers to their participation in campus life and academics.
One great grounding exercise you can use if you start feeling stressed is called 5-4-3-2-1 method.
To do this, you just have to observe your surroundings and identify, 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste.
This exercise can help you refocus on the present moment and distract yourself from anxious feelings.
