I am incredibly proud of my student, Tyler Gennaro, who began his martial arts journey at just 5 years old and today earned his second-degree black belt in Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu. Tyler’s hard work ethic both in and out of the Dojo is nothing short of remarkable. In addition to his martial arts accomplishments, he has been involved in theater since seventh grade, appearing in over 20 productions and even taking on lead roles in several. An honor student throughout high school and now in college, Tyler is setting his sights on a future career as a child psychologist. I am confident he will excel in everything he pursues, both in and out of the Dojo.

To make this achievement even more special, it is a privilege to watch Tyler train alongside his father, Sensei Charles Gennaro, a 4th-degree black belt. Seeing them share this journey is truly inspiring. On behalf of Takeshi Tamaki Sensei, Masahiko Tokashiki Sensei , Sadahiro Makino and all the members of Shorin Ryu Karate Do International. Spotlight on Shorin Ryu Karate Do International member Maycon Henrique Sichelschimidt Sensei from Brazil 🇧🇷 Sensei Maycon Henrique Sichelschimidt, Brazilian, married and father of two daughters, living in the state of Bahia, has been practicing Karate for over 25 years, when he took his first steps in Shotokan Karate-Do, under the tutelage of Master Adenilson Silva, a member of the JKA. Already in his intermediate graduation, he discovered that his path in Karate would not be to participate in competitions and win medals and trophies, but rather he saw himself as a teacher. Already in the green belt, he became an instructor to some students with the authorization of his sensei. In 2007, due to a move to another city, Sensei Maycon discovered Shorin-Ryu Karate and fell in love with this style. So he decided to migrate from the Shotokan style to the Shorin-Ryu style. In 2008 he received the Shodan graduation and since then he has followed his vocation by teaching Shorin-Ryu Karate-Do. During this time, Sensei Maycon has taught karate to more than 900 students and trained several black belts. He has been president of national karate organizations and today leads the Bushidaikan Shorin-Ryu school with several members throughout Brazil, an independent school that was founded in 2019. Since then, Bushidaikan Shorin-Ryu has been affiliated with SRKDI, forming a very successful partnership with SRKDI through the support of Sensei Jerry Figgiani. In 2021, Bushidaikan was recognized by OKIC - Okinawa Karate Information Center (Okinawa-JP) as one of the 16 karate schools in Brazil that teach the legitimate traditional Okinawan karate. Today, Sensei Maycon is a 5th Dan Renshi black belt, recognized by the main Brazilian and international karate organizations, and has traveled the country to share some of his knowledge with other practitioners through courses and seminars.
