Our tenth-grade students in Ms. Camarco, Ms. Piscattelli, Ms. Valentine, and Mrs. Knudsen traveled to Suffolk County Community College last week to learn more about the Holocaust from speakers including 3GNY (families of Holocaust survivors) and college professors. Students also visited the Holocaust Museum located in the Huntington Library which has the largest collection of Holocaust artifacts on Long Island.

Recently, in collaboration with our World Language Department, the Heritage Club, and the National Foreign Language Honor Society, we hosted our Intercambio event. Students thoroughly enjoyed and valued the opportunity to practice both Spanish and English in a dynamic, interactive environment. Beyond the language practice, the most significant takeaway from this event was observing native and non-native speakers come together to break down barriers and form meaningful connections—interactions that are not always possible in a typical school day. These moments of cultural exchange and collaboration are essential in fostering a more inclusive and enriching learning atmosphere. It was an excellent way to promote diversity and highlight the multilingual skills our students possess.

This is an exciting time for our Robotics Team, the Longwood RoboLions, as they headed to their first competition in Rochester this past week. Next week, they will travel to Hofstra University for the Long Island Regional competition. Best of luck, RoboLions!

Last week, our students participated in the Women in STEM program hosted by Stony Brook University. This four-session program is designed to immerse students in STEM fields and introduce them to potential college and career opportunities. The presentation featured keynote speakers from the New York Power Authority (NYPA), who discussed advancements in renewable energy. Students gained hands-on experience in building their own microgrids and learned about the future of renewable energy sources. The session concluded with a tour of Stony Brook's prestigious Power Electronics Laboratory at the Research and Development Park. We are incredibly proud of our students for their continued dedication to learn and grow!

The 2025 Longwood High School Local Scholarship application is open! Last year, seniors were awarded more than $100,000.00 from local businesses and organizations.

The 2025 Local Scholarship can be found on your Naviance account, go to "About Me," then "Surveys from your school." Applications will be open from January 13 - March 7, 2025.

Our Drone program, in partnership with Stony Brook University, was launched earlier this week. Students receive training from a certified drone instructor from Stony Brook University, focusing on the innovation and advancements behind drone technology. We are excited to introduce this program and are hopeful that it will evolve into a robust career pathway in the near future.

Congratulations to Ashley Cosgrove for having her short story published! Ashley submitted a story about a glitch in the world, and her story was chosen by the publishing company. It was published in the book The Glitch, edited by Lynsey Evans. Ashley is enrolled in our Early College High School program, and we are extremely proud of her accomplishment.

Congratulations to our students for their outstanding performance in the recent drama production of 12 Angry Jurors! Our talented students did an amazing job showcasing their skills, and the community had a wonderful time attending the event. A huge thanks to all of our stage crew, tech crew, and cast for ensuring the show was a success.

Recently, the National Foreign Language Honor Society (NFLHS) held an induction ceremony to recognize more than 30 students for their dedication to academic excellence in language and culture. The event was entirely organized and facilitated by our students, for our students. Congratulations to all!
