Have you met Assistant Principal Kevin Jones?
Mr. Jones is returning to MCAS after previously spending 11 years at Krueger Middle School, where he taught science, coached cross country and track, and served in a variety of teacher leadership roles.
Before joining Knapp, he expanded his experience as an admissions counselor at Indiana University Northwest and Dean of Students at Lake Station Edison Jr./Sr. High School. He is currently completing the requirements for his building-level administrator’s license through Indiana University Bloomington.
Mr. Jones is excited to once again serve the community he is part of. As assistant principal, he looks forward to supporting a large number of students, staff members, and families in his community. He is passionate about driving positive student outcomes and problem-solving.
Mr. Jones was drawn to the role because of the opportunity to help others and model the importance of kindness, humility, and responsibility.
After 13 years working with older students, he is excited to take on his first role in an elementary setting. He also looks forward to learning alongside Principal Michelle Hornyak, whose mentorship and encouragement are helping prepare him to one day lead a school of his own.
A big goal he has for this year is to make sure that all Knapp Knights feel seen and heard, while helping them understand the importance of making positive choices.
Fun Fact about Mr. Jones: He has completed the Chicago Marathon 9 times! His best time is 3:28:19. One of his favorite places to run is the Indiana Dunes State Park in Chesterton on the 3 Dune Challenge path.
