Welcome Mr. Jones!

Have you met Assistant Principal Kevin Jones?

Mr. Jones is returning to MCAS after previously spending 11 years at Krueger Middle School, where he taught science, coached cross country and track, and served in a variety of teacher leadership roles.

Before joining Knapp, he expanded his experience as an admissions counselor at Indiana University Northwest and Dean of Students at Lake Station Edison Jr./Sr. High School. He is currently completing the requirements for his building-level administrator’s license through Indiana University Bloomington.
Mr. Jones is excited to once again serve the community he is part of. As assistant principal, he looks forward to supporting a large number of students, staff members, and families in his community. He is passionate about driving positive student outcomes and problem-solving.

Mr. Jones was drawn to the role because of the opportunity to help others and model the importance of kindness, humility, and responsibility.

After 13 years working with older students, he is excited to take on his first role in an elementary setting. He also looks forward to learning alongside Principal Michelle Hornyak, whose mentorship and encouragement are helping prepare him to one day lead a school of his own.

A big goal he has for this year is to make sure that all Knapp Knights feel seen and heard, while helping them understand the importance of making positive choices.

Fun Fact about Mr. Jones: He has completed the Chicago Marathon 9 times! His best time is 3:28:19. One of his favorite places to run is the Indiana Dunes State Park in Chesterton on the 3 Dune Challenge path.

Responsiblity is one of the MCAS 7 Habits of Character and Brayden has really stepped up this year to be responsible. He completes his tasks and takes pride in his work. He also has shown good judgements this year, proving to be a trustworthy student.

Welcome Mr. Campbell!

We are proud to welcome Mr. Dion Campbell as our Director of Transportation.

Please join us in congratulating Mr. Campbell! 🚌We’d like to extend a warm welcome to the MCAS Director of Transportation, Dion Campbell.

Prior to taking on this role, Mr. Campbell served the community in law enforcement, led the Dorothy S. Crowley LaPorte County Juvenile Services Center, and founded the MCPD Youth Leadership Academy and the “Bridge to Manhood” Young Men's Development Program. He was also an assistant men’s basketball coach at Indiana State University.

He has received countless awards for his leadership efforts, such as the South Shore Leadership Regional Leaders as Heroes Award, the Michigan City Human Rights Humanitarian of the Year award, and the NAACP Trailblazer Award.

Mr. Campbell returns to MCAS excited about the opportunity to rejoin the Michigan City community and connect with parents, students, and staff.

He looks forward to building a vibrant culture and workplace for staff who transport and care for the students of Michigan City. He hopes to create a supportive environment where staff care for one another and their students, and everyone feels valued.

A Fun Fact about Mr. Campbell: He is a self-proclaimed “diehard foodie!” His favorites are Louisiana and Vietnamese cuisines.
