It was great to celebrate with our friends at Discover Classical this morning, as they celebrated their new, state-of-the-art broadcasting facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. One of the most exciting features of their new location is a performance studio that allows for live and recorded performances to be aired on the radio and shown through their social media. There's a new face around the studio this week! Arella Png is a Piano Performance Major at Wright State University in her senior year. She is an international student from Singapore currently studying under Dr Lina Lee, and was previously under the tutelage of Dr Jackson Leung. Arella was the winner of WSU’s Concerto Aria Night in 2023 and the alternate winner in 2025. Arella won the Excellent Musicianship Award & and the silver prize in the Romantic category at the Manchester International Music Competition in 2022, and received an Associate Diploma from Trinity College London in 2017. Students in Music Makers at Home were hard at work in their "workshop" today, hammering, sawing, and drilling with their rhythm sticks. These types of exercises help young children to internalize rhythmic patterns and to listen to others and match their actions; critical skills for musicians to possess.
