Chess, Robotics, and Critical Thinking in Action.

Today our students combined robotics and chess through the classic ‘Rook vs 5 Pawns’ educational mini-game. One student remotely controlled a robotic rook while the opposing team advanced the pawns by hand on a giant chessboard.

Special thanks to Mr. Batista’s class for designing and building the robotic rook used during the activity. Their creativity, engineering, and teamwork helped bring this interdisciplinary learning experience to life.

Activities like this help students develop problem-solving, planning, collaboration, focus, and decision-making skills in an engaging and interactive way.

Chess is more than a game — it’s a tool for learning.

We are thrilled to announce that the Carr/Tooks Family has been selected as our 2025-2026 Family of the Year! 🏆✨
While many of our students and staff know Ms. Randricka Carr as the manager of our Upper Academy cafeteria, her impact on our campus goes beyond her professional title. As both a dedicated staff member and a passionate parent to Amir (2nd Grade) and Tariq (Pre-K), Ms. Carr embodies the heart and soul of our school community.
Whether she is volunteering her time to ensure staff events have food, making sure students are fed on the weekend, or acting as a friendly, unifying bridge across our entire campus, she treats students with the same deep care she shows her own.
Ms. Carr doesn’t just work at Citrus Grove K-8—she has made it her home, showing up for our community and serving as a shining example of parental advocacy and community spirit.
Please join us in thanking and congratulating Randricka, Amir, and Tariq!

♟️🌍 Chess Meets World History!

As part of the 2026 FIDE Year of Chess in Education, Middle School World History teacher Ms. Majumdar used chess as a learning tool while students explored the history and evolution of chess and its connection to historical civilizations and leaders such as the Roman world and Napoleon. 🏛️👑

Students learned how chess spread across cultures through Persia, the Silk Road, and Europe, while also discussing strategy, decision-making, and critical thinking through classroom chess activities.

Students even applied real chess principles such as avoiding early queen moves and “checking the board before moving” as part of their class discussions. 🧠♟️

At Citrus Grove K-8, chess is more than a game — it’s a tool for learning across subjects. 💡📚
