Presidential Inaugurations used to be in March??? Yup! 216 years ago, President James Madison was inaugurated for the first time! He was also the first president to be inaugurated in an all American made suit!

Happy birthday to the mother of occupational health, Dr. Alice Hamilton! She was the first female faculty member at Harvard, fought for workers and women’s rights, and highlighted how important it was to serve those who are in need.

Today we remember Trayvon Martin, a young black child who was shot and killed 13 years ago today. Trayvon was unjustly judged for the color of his skin, and became a victim of a fatal hate crime at the young age of 17.

Today we remember Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, who pioneered medical studies for women and children in the 1800s. Dr. Crumpler was the first African American Woman to accomplish a medical degree in the United States. Learn more about her at Library.fiu.edu & Happy Black History Month!
