Lee Tiger passed January 5, 2023. Miccosukee musician, entrepreneur, and environmentalist, Lee Tiger was integral to the founding of the “Global Indigenous Forum” (GIF), and the student club the “Global Indigenous Group” (GIG), at Florida International University. Lee guided the initial activities and development of the GIF mission to bring the Indigenous voice to FIU, to South Florida and the world. He served on the GIF Advisory Council for many years, spoke at campus events, and performed his music at the annual Indigenous Celebrations. Lee provided valuable advice, especially on how to keep a positive balance with the many critical Indigenous issues that are so hard for many people to hear.

Lee is pictured in the photo taken on April 19th, 2013, when students, tribal members, and faculty members gathered to start a conversation about the need of having Indigenous voices at Florida International University. https://indigenous.fiu.edu/about-us/founders/

Lee shared his life story on the economic development of the Miccosukee/Seminole people and his promotion of Native American tourism throughout the world. In a 2010 article by Dennis Wiedman in the American Indian Culture and Research Journal, Lee expressed his perspectives on “Global Marketing of Indigenous Culture: Discovering Native America with Lee Tiger and the Florida Miccosukee.”
