Star Trek Day is celebrated every year on September 8, the date marking the premiere of the original Star Trek television series in 1966. Fans across the globe observe the occasion as a tribute to the franchise’s lasting cultural impact.
The series, created by Gene Roddenberry, first aired on NBC in 1966 and imagined a future shaped by diversity, exploration, and optimism. Though it was cancelled after just three seasons, it grew into a cult phenomenon that gave rise to numerous spin-offs and feature films. Star Trek Day itself was officially recognized in 2020.

The observance is frequently compared to Star Wars Day on May 4. Another significant date for fans is First Contact Day on April 5, which commemorates the fictional first meeting between humans and aliens as portrayed in the 1996 film Star Trek: First Contact.
