Over the last several months Professor Ryan Pontier has been developing an inaugural conference to help emerging Hispanic-serving school districts improve their practices.
While the COVID-19 pandemic is delaying the conference until June 2021, Pontier hosted a webinar with education consultant Andrea DeCapua focused on the intercultural communication framework.

FIU launches new online master’s in Educational Leadership
FIU is now offering a new online master’s degree for educators who aspire to become leaders in higher education or K-12 school systems. Recruiting for the Master of Science in Educational Leadership’s first cohort is now underway. The application deadline is June 1. Classes begin in August 2020.

In a groundbreaking decision in April, the United States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit recognized a constitutional right to foundational literacy under the Fourteenth Amendment.
The case, which originated from students seeking equitable, quality education in the Detroit public schools, elevates the argument that all children have a right to be educated to a 21st century standard of basic literacy.
