The 2026 Red Ribbon Week theme is here: “Make a Difference. Be a Hero. Stay Drug Free.” And this message matters. Being drug-free is not about being perfect. It is about making choices that protect your future, inspire others, and show real strength.

Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We remember their sacrifice, their families, and the freedom they helped protect.

Before the long weekend begins, have the conversation. Where are you going? Who will be there? What is the plan? What should you do if you feel uncomfortable? These questions are not about being controlling. They are about making sure young people know you care, you are paying attention, and they can call you if they need help.

Children’s mental health deserves more than a once-a-year reminder. Kids and teens are carrying stress, pressure, fear, and expectations that adults do not always see. Today is a reminder to slow down, pay attention, and make sure young people know they are not alone.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this conversation matters. Mental health, substance use prevention, and family connection are all tied together. When young people feel supported, heard, and safe enough to talk, they are more likely to make healthy choices.

This month, we’re talking about what prevention really looks like: honest conversations, strong support systems and showing up before there is a crisis.
