Located on 245 acres in northern Miami-Dade County, this beautifully landscaped campus was the College's first. It was built in 1960 on land that once hosted a World War II Naval air station. The main academic buildings of the Campus surround a serene lake and lush walking paths. MDC's North Campus is home to the Schools of Science, Criminal Justice and Entertainment and Design Technologies and the College's Fire Sciences and Funeral Service Education programs. The North Campus also offers several unique opportunities that include bachelor's degrees in Biological Sciences; Film, Television & Digital Production; and Public Safety Management. Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center, which promotes excellence in education, entrepreneurship, and workforce preparation. In January 2010, MDC celebrated the official opening of the College's state of-the-art science complex at North Campus. The first of its kind in north Miami-Dade County, the 90,000-square-foot complex features 21 laboratories with media stations, a Palmetum, a roof-top observatory, classrooms, lecture hall, faculty and administrative offices, botanical garden, greenhouse, an outdoor plaza and a café.

What an incredible day of leadership, service, and community impact!

A huge thank you to Miami Heat legend Udonis Haslem for inspiring our youth and kicking off the Annual Hope for Tomorrow Conference with an important message about resilience, believing in your own path, and not allowing outside voices to define who you are. He also reminded every one of the importance of taking care of their mental well being and continuing to move forward with confidence. We’re also honored and grateful to receive a plaque of recognition from the Udonis Haslem Foundation for our valued partnership and commitment to empowering students in our community.

We also want to give a massive shoutout to all the incredible students who gathered for the District wide Key Club Kick Off Conference that featured workshops where students learned about fundraising strategies, communicating with impact, networking with service partners, and developing leadership skills to better serve their communities.

MDC has climbed to No. 3 among Top Public Schools in the South in the 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings, up from No. 5 last year.

The College also ranks No. 3 among Best Colleges for Veterans, reflecting MDC’s longstanding commitment to veterans and its distinction as the institution serving the largest number of veterans among those ranked in the category.

These recognitions reflect the work happening across MDC every day to deliver academic excellence at scale, expand access and prepare students for opportunity, whether they are entering the workforce, continuing their education or building the next chapter of their careers.

Today marks the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, and gives us an opportunity to reflect on the rights and freedoms it protects, including the ones we exercise every day.

To celebrate, we welcomed Professor Caroline Mala Corbin from the University of Miami School of Law for a special conversation on the First Amendment and constitutional freedoms, followed by a Q&A with our Sharks.

We’re grateful to Professor Corbin for sharing her time and expertise and giving our Sharks an opportunity to learn more about the rights that belong to each of us.

What an amazing Club Rush we had today! It was more than just finding a new club or learning about campus resources, it was about helping students feel connected, supported and a little more at home during their time at MDC.

Club Rush gave students the chance to meet new people, discover communities that reflect their interests and find new ways to be a part of college life. Campus Safety Day was also a reminder that feeling safe and being informed and supported matters just as much as being involved.

September is National Hunger Action Month and our MDC community came together to raise awareness and spark action during our Changemaker Week event! A big thank you to every student, faculty, and staff member who stopped by to support. Your energy and generosity reminds us what being a Shark is all about.

If you weren’t able to make it, there is still plenty of time to make a difference! We are collecting donations all fall semester long, with the food drive continuing through Friday, December 4th. Every single canned good, non perishable food item, or hygiene product dropped off directly supports our campus food pantry.
