In Memory of Alan C. Marks (1925–2025)
We remember and celebrate the life of Alan C. Marks, a gifted editor whose work helped shape some of the most iconic stories in television and film.
Alan C. Marks’ editing credits include cult classics and beloved series that continue to resonate with audiences today. From his work on The Incredible Hulk (1977) and The Bionic Woman (1976)—two Emmy-winning genre-defining television series, plus the landmark Original Miniseries V (1983), that pushed the boundaries of action and science fiction storytelling—to his earlier work on the cult film The Madmen of Mandoras (1963), Alan’s influence was unmistakable. His IMDB credits only go back to 1968, but his Hollywood career actually began in 1950, as a staff editor for Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball at Desilu -- where his work included I Love Lucy, Our Miss Brooks, and many of their other series.
Alan C. Marks was a consummate artist whose sensitivity and skills were consistently extraordinary throughout the films and scores of tv episodes that he collaborated on. Those who worked alongside Alan speak of his professionalism, positivity, and generous spirit. He was a respected colleague and mentor with a deep dedication to his craft. Alan's closest collaborator for twenty years, filmmaker Kenneth Johnson says, "Alan's love for his work and his unique, personal joy was and will forever be an inspiration to all of us."
On his 100th birthday, Alan was honored by the New York Film Academy with an honorary degree—an acknowledgment not only of his outstanding artistic achievements but of his decades of work and contributions to the film and tv industry.
Alan C. Marks leaves behind a body of work that continues to entertain, inspire, and endure. The New York Film Academy offers its deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and fans of his work.

As April wraps up, we’re taking a moment to recognize Autism Awareness Month and the importance of representation in media.
It was a pleasure to screen ONCE MORE, LIKE RAIN MAN, followed by a Q&A with Director Sue Ann Pien, Writer & Actress Bella Zoe Martinez, Producers Andy Areffi and Melissa Martinez-Areffi, and Moderator Darren Dean at NYFA NY.
Once More, Like Rain Man follows Zoe, a 13-year-old Autistic actor, as she frustratingly bounces from one audition to audition in attempts to be cast as autistic character - only to be told she's, "Not what we're looking for".
Based on the real-life experiences of Belle Zoe Martinez, the film shares a timely, authentic, and often painful window into the world of how people with Autism and other disabilities are depicted in the studio system and Hollywood.

Ted Kotcheff, the acclaimed director behind some of Hollywood’s most memorable films, has passed away at the age of 94.
Best known for directing iconic films like the cult comedy classic Weekend at Bernie’s and the powerful and gritty First Blood — the original Rambo film that launched a franchise and redefined the action genre — Kotcheff had an uncanny ability to blend emotional depth with unforgettable storytelling. His 1971 anthro-horror thriller, Wake in Fright, was cited by Nick Cave as "the best and most terrifying film about Australia in existence.” His versatility as a director brought both laughter and intensity to the screen, making his work truly timeless.
Born in Toronto in 1931, Kotcheff began his career in television before transitioning to film, where he would go on to shape some of the most memorable moments in Hollywood history. Kotcheff shared his insights with aspiring filmmakers as a guest speaker at the New York Film Academy. His work will continue to inspire filmmakers and captivate audiences for years to come.
The New York Film Academy extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who were moved by his art.
