ππ **A Letter to Potential Host Families** ππ
Hello everyone! π
My name is Jackie Willock, and I have the privilege of working as a Local Coordinator for International High School Students.
Every year, I help amazing students from around the world find kind and welcoming Host Families here in South Florida (and in other cities in Florida and in other states). π‘β¨
A little about meβ¦
I have a Bachelorβs Degree in Tourism Business Administration π and a Masterβs Degree in Business Management π. I am happily married β€οΈ and the proud parent of two young adult children:
π° **Shantelle** β Journalist
π©Ί **David** β Recent University of Florida graduate in Biology/Pre-Medicine and next is applying to medical school.
In my free time, I love going to the beach π΄βοΈ, dancing π, attending concerts and performances πΆπ, and volunteering in my community.
I proudly volunteer with **Scouting America, Troop 599-Miami (Kendall)** βοΈ where I serve as the Eagle Project Coach π¦
. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/troop599miami/?ref=share&mibextid=NSMWBT)
I also volunteer at the **Adrienne Arsht Center** Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts π.
β€οΈπππππ But one of the things closest to my heart β€οΈ is working with International High School Students π.
Every student brings a unique culture, personality, and story. I learn so much from them, and it is truly rewarding to watch them grow during their exchange year. While they are here, I serve as their Supervisor/Local Coordinator to help ensure everything goes smoothly with both the Host Families π‘ and the student's school π«.
I love planning monthly group activities π and attending their school events such as:
π Football games
β½ Other Sports events
π€ Talent shows
π Awards nights
π Graduations, etc.
I also help students when needed by:
π Taking them prom dress shopping
πΈ Organizing photo shoots
π Going on college tours
ποΈ Giving rides to the mall
π’ Planning exciting big trips to take them to places like Universal Studios and Key West, etc.
My Host Families are on a group chat and my students on a separate chat, there we share important information, photos, videos, events, activities to stay connected as a community.
If a student or Host Family is ever having difficulties, I am always there as a listening ear π, offering guidance, support, and solutions π€.
Right now, I still have a few wonderful students waiting for someone special to choose to host them.
π§³βοΈ Their bags are packed, and they check their emails every single day π§ hoping TODAY will be the day they receive the exciting news that YOU β or someone you know β has decided to host them. β€οΈ
Even if you cannot host, you can still help! π
If you refer someone who ends up hosting a student, YOU can earn a referral fee π΅ ($100 or $200 depending on the student's agency).
β¨ Benefits of Hosting Include:
π Learning about a new culture
π« If you have kids, giving them a βHost Brotherβ or βHost Sisterβ
πΊπΈ Sharing the American way of life
ποΈ Helping create world peace and cultural understanding, which is so needed nowadays.
βΌοΈ All students provide a monthly stipend π° ($900β$1,000 per month) to their Host FamilyβΌοΈ, they have their own spending money ποΈ to cover personal expenses, and carry medical insurance π₯.
β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ Host Families simply provide a caring home environment and meals at home π½οΈ.

Simply complete an Application online (ask me to send it to you by email).

Attention: Christopher Columbus High School Families (or people that live or work close to this school at 3000 SW 87th Avenue, Miami, FL 33165):
Noah (Brazil) who will be an 11th grader is βΌοΈSTiLLβΌοΈ waiting for a nice person, like β€οΈ YOU β€οΈ (or someone you know) to host him! πππ
β°οΈ Time is running out, I need your help to make his π π« DREAMS π« πΊπΈ of experiencing the, August 2026 to June 2027, school year, in Miami (10 months) become a reality.
βΌοΈA stipend ($1,000 per month) is paid to host him, this is to help to offset the costs of hosting. It is money for you. You donβt have to show receipts to anyone on how you use this moneyβΌοΈ Noah has his own spending money to cover everything he needs (school supplies, uniform, activities, field trips, sports, outings with you and friends, etc.) and school tuition is paid by his agency.
Noah doesn't have any food or pet allergies, he must have his own bedroom (but he doesn't need a private bathroom, it can be shared with anyone). πΊπΈ He has strong English skills and he can't wait to improve it with your help.
π§π· You will learn all about the Brazilian culture and have a new son and later you can go explore his country when he returns to Brazil. If you have kids at home they will have a Host Brother who can play with them and teach them Portuguese. π§π·
πββοΈπββοΈπ₯πͺπ¨βπ©βπ§βπ§π¨βπ§βπ§π©βπ§βπ§ Host Families come in all shapes, colors and sizes (a single person without kids at home, a single parent with or without kids at home, empty nesters, etc. can host).
*This is not a real photo of Noah, since he is a minor I'm not allowed to post his real photo.
π I also have students requesting to attend a Miami Dade County Public School (Stipend: $800-$1,000 per month). Let me know if you can host Noah or a student that will attend the MDCPS high school that is zoned to your home address?π

This βοΈ Easter, let's celebrate the spirit of peace by building bridges. Hosting an international student is a beautiful way to foster global understanding right from your dining room. By opening your doors, you're not just sharing a meal; you're cultivating lifelong friendships and helping the world feel a bit more united.

Hi Moms,
π I need your help...β€οΈ
βοΈHave you ever thought about hosting an International high school student, for 5 or 10 months (or for shorter periods as a Welcome Family, an Emergency Family or only for 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks during the summer)βοΈIf you are even remotely curious, please DM me and I will send more info, with no pressure or any nagging from me to convince you. I will just give you the info and wait to see if you have any questions or want to complete an application online.
βΌοΈThe Host Families receive a monthly stipend to host ($800 to $1,000).βΌοΈ You use that money any way you want, no need to show receipts to anyone. Most people use it to offset the costs of hosting (higher bills: Grocery, utilities, gasoline etc.). Itβs not intended for you to use it to pay for things for the student because they have their own spending money ($300-$400 per month) to cover everything they need (except food at home, which is provided by the Host Family). They also have medical insurance.
π You don't have to send your own child abroad to host. π
π¨βπ©βπ¦βπ¦ π©π§ββοΈπ« Our families come in all shapes, colors and sizes: Even a single person with or without kids can host. Empty nesters, same s*x couples, etc. can host.
π π‘ π You don't need to be rich to host, or have a big fancy house or a busy life with tons of trips planned. If you have a mortgage, if you are renting in a house or in an apartment, or you own, you can host!
πΊπΈ The students just want to experience the USA and they will adapt to your familyβs routine, whatever that might be. They are eager to experience your familyβs traditions πππ£π»ππΈπ·π
π. They want to go to Homecoming, Spirit Week at school, Prom ππΊ. They want to go to πChick Fil-a, πͺ Crumbl Cookies, Walmart etc!
β½οΈπβΎοΈπππΎ They make friends at school, play sports and join clubs and they can travel with their friends (if you approve) or with you, in the USA and also abroad and they cover all their expenses. They can also go on a cruise π³ with you or with another family. They can stay home alone for several hours, they just can't stay overnight home alone. If you need to go out of town and the student can't travel with you, there's several options, such as, they can stay temporarily with another Host Family or one of their friends from school, or coach or favorite teacher. You can also have someone you trust stay at your house while you are away.
I have students from Europe, Asia and Brazil who will attend a Miami Dade County Public School that your home address is zoned to. If you live at least 2 or more miles away from the school, your student will get free school bus π.
βοΈ Students arrive in August to attend school from August to January (one semester) or until June (two semesters).π
βΌοΈYou choose to host:
- One or two students π¦π§. If hosting two they must be from two different countries to ensure they will speak in English at home.
- Gender: Boy(s) or girl(s) or one of each gender.
- Country(s) π
I am your Local Coordinator / Student's Supervisor to provide you and the student with any needed support. I don't just give you a kid and then disappear. I even plan group activities once a month which are optional for students and Host Families to attend.
