Consider registering for ENC 4385 - Material / Cultural Writing & Rhetorics. ENC 4385 will be offered on Tuesdays from 2:00PM to 3:15PM at MMC as a hybrid course Fall 2023.

This course counts as an elective for the Certificate in Professional and Public Writing and the BA Track in Writing and Rhetoric.

In this course, we will read, write, and think about the objects we love, since "we live our lives in the middle of things" (Turkle 6). This course will investigate the relationship between objects, people, and ideas by reading interdisciplinary scholarship on material culture from the fields of writing & rhetoric, literature, cultural studies, and material cultural studies.

The Exile Studies Program is pleased to present the third lecture in our year-long series Giving Voice to Exile: The Privileges and Burdens of Inheritance. Entitled “Exilic Pilgrimages,” the lecture will be given by Dr. Ruth Behar, the highly acclaimed Cuban-American scholar, novelist and public intellectual. Greetings students,

Please join us for an evening of literature and poetry with the 2023 Butler Waugh keynote speaker, Kevin Quashie. He is the author or editor of four books, most recently The Sovereignty of Quiet: Beyond Resistance in Black Culture (2012) and Black Aliveness, or A Poetics of Being (2021). Black Aliveness has been awarded two prizes: the James Russell Lowell Prize from the Modern Language Association (2022) and the Pegasus Award for Poetry Criticism from the Poetry Foundation (2022).

The 2023 Butler Waugh Lecture in literature will take place on Thursday, March 16th, 2023, starting at 6:30pm until 9:00pm at the faculty club at the Graham Center at the MMC Campus.

The event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the lecture.

The submission deadline for the 2023 Student Literary Awards is officially two weeks away. The deadline for submissions is Friday, February 17th at 4PM. Submissions for manuscripts are being accepted from students enrolled in Fall 2022 and Spring 2023.

Submit a manuscript for a chance to win a prize of $150 or $50 honorable mention in each division. Please see updated details below.
