Message from Dr. Cespedes to the 2013 IB graduates:

I am profoundly proud to have taught the terrific class of 2013, an extraordinary bunch in so many ways. We have shared memories and triumphs of the will to learn and grow as human beings. I expected much from you, and you rose to the challenge. Remember that we're not here to only prosper materialistically, we're here to make an improvement (even a slight one) to this little green sphere orbiting the cosmos. I’m not going to tell you to “save the world”, but I will call upon you be principled, honest, industrious, and an example to all -- because the Confucians were right: a principled person will influence his family to be principled, who will in turn influence the village, who will in turn influence the region, and the region then the nation. Let’s all contribute to the continuance of a democratic society which works for maximizing individual freedom and human dignity. Remember (as I told one very special Céspedesian recently), for the weak-minded difficulties are obstacles. To the strong-willed, however, they are a wall to be climbed over, tunneled under, or to be bored through (or in the case of you imaginative types, for building a teleportation device and appearing on the other side). What is in your mind will impede your progress, or provide opportunities to a bright future: planning, resolve, and carry-through -- that’s the simple (and likewise difficult) secret to life. By the way, I didn’t stay and mingle in the courtyard because “Dr. C” is quite a sentimental softie, and I hate farewells. Besides, there doesn’t need to be a “farewell”, if we all stay in touch. May God’s divine grace and good fortune descend upon you and all your loved ones!

~ Dr. C

Hey everyone, a couple of updates regarding the two events this weekend for IB.

1.) The Garage Sale is this Saturday, the 23rd from 6am-2pm. For every item donated you will get 2-5 hours depending on the condition. Some popular items are old school books, SAT/AP review books, and games. Items can be dropped off at Ms. Hoffman’s home (8201 Sw 151 Street 33158) which is very close to Reef. If you cannot drop it off, let us know and we can arrange for it to be picked up from school.

We are also in need of volunteers for the day. You can either choose to volunteer in shifts or the entire day. If you are in need of hours, IBIS is always generous with CAS so this is a good opportunity before the year ends and you can get a significant amount of hours in just one morning/afternoon.

2.) The IB Picnic is this Sunday. It’s a sports/game day for the entire IB academy, including flag football, soccer, water balloon fights, etc… It will be dj’d by our very own Andres Lopez so for those of you who don’t have a ticket to Ultra, this is just as good! It’s from 1pm-4:30pm. There will be snacks, games, and it will take place at Coral Reef Park!

See you all then! Message/comment if you have any questions!
