The Gordon Institute (JGI) welcomes you and encourages you to explore the numerous facets of learning opportunities that are available. This includes academic certificates at the graduate (National Security Studies) and undergraduate (National Security Studies, Public Policy Studies, and North American Studies) levels, study abroad opportunities, internship experiences, and the National Security Roundtables. These are all available to help students prepare for careers while developing into better citizens and contributing members of their communities. Public policy is the study of how governmental decisions are shaped from political, socio-economic, and institutional perspectives and the process by which decisions are made as well as the subject matter of those policies. Citizenship is the membership in a political community (originally a city but now usually a country) and carries with it rights to and responsibilities of political participation; a person having such membership is a citizen. National security is enabling the survival and safety of the nation-state through the use of diplomacy and political, economic and military power.
