FIU Embrace FIU Embrace is a university-wide initiative that promotes health, wellness, and overall functioning

FIU Embrace is a university-wide initiative that promotes health and overall functioning for adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), intellectual disabilities (ID), and other neurodevelopmental disorders (OND). The initiative was founded under FIU's College of Medicine, but has since expanded. We continue to offer medical services to adults with ASD, ID, and OND. Our team of doctors specialize in treating patients with developmental disabilities and recognize their patients are individuals with personal patterns of talents and issues. We provide internal medicine, gynecological, and behavioral health services, including psychiatric care, as well as laboratory and other ancillary services. FIU Embrace has expanded from this medical program to a university-wide initiative. With long-term betterment to the community and individuals with disabilities in mind, FIU Embrace now offers a post-secondary education program on-campus. The program is specialized for individuals with developmental disabilities; it will provide a smooth transition to degree-earning education, and eventually, meaningful employment.

Applications for Spring 2027 are now open! 🎓💙💛
FIU Embrace Education is a three-year, non-degree certificate program designed for students ages 18 and older with intellectual disabilities and/or autism. Through an inclusive college experience, students build skills in academics, career readiness, independent living, social engagement, and more while receiving support from mentors and the FIU community.
Students can also explore areas of specialization including Hospitality, Health & Nutrition, Allied Health, Technology, Professional Studies, and Digital Arts.

🌟 Student Spotlight: Adrian Miranda 🌟
Adrian is building the skills and experience needed for a successful career in the hospitality industry through the FIU Embrace Non-Degree Seeking Program. From earning microcredentials and pursuing his ServSafe Food Handler Certification to volunteering at the South Beach W**e & Food Festival and working at GameTime, Adrian continues to grow both personally and professionally.
He is also preparing for an exciting new chapter—living independently in the residence halls! We are proud of Adrian’s dedication and look forward to seeing all that he accomplishes. 💙💛

Meet Janice Metz, Career Specialist at FIU Embrace! 💙💛
Janice helps students build the skills and experiences needed to pursue meaningful employment. Through job shadowing, internships, and employment opportunities, she supports students as they discover their strengths, explore their interests, and prepare for careers that align with their goals.
Outside of work, Janice enjoys working out, walking, and spending time outdoors. A fun fact about her is that she was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and has lived in several different states. Please join us in welcoming Janice to the FIU Embrace team!
