The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is a federally funded educational program designed to afford the opportunity of a college education to families without a legacy of higher education. Employers currently advertise millions of job openings that require a minimum of an associate's degree. Also, current employment market predictions foresee an increasing demand for job applicants who hold a four-year college degree. It is in anticipation of this new job market demand that the EOC program is creating educational opportunities beyond a high school level for eligible adults in Miami Dade County.

TRIO EOC has been busy this month!

We have been attending resource fairs, job fairs, and speaking to the community! The group reflected a wide range of needs and achievements—some students are working toward completing their high school diploma, while others have already been awarded the Presidential Scholarship.

This work is complex, but it’s meaningful. Seeing students at different points in their journey and being able to support them directly is what makes it worth it.

TRIO is at risk.

The new Talent Search competition to renew funding includes $175M—enough to support ALL current programs and even expand access.

Instead:
• No funding guarantees
• Only ~175 projects funded nationwide instead of 517 currently funded
• Up to $10M directed to a single large organization

This is how programs get eliminated.

TRIO provides:
• FAFSA support
• College admissions guidance
• GED pathways
• Career advising
• Long-term student support

📢 DAY OF ACTION: March 25

Call your:
📞 House Representative
📞 BOTH U.S. Senators

Say:
• Rescind and revise the Talent Search competition
• No lapse in TRIO services

24 Years Ago Today we were shaken as a nation. 24 Years Ago Today, in the midst of fear, Brian’s final words were not of anger, but of love. On 9/11, thousands of lives were taken, but what endures are the voices, the memories, and the love they left behind. Today, we honor not just the tragedy, but the humanity, courage, and resilience that shined in the darkest of hours.Today we pause to remember the lives lost, the heroes who rose, and the unity that carried us forward.
