Today, June 23rd, marks the 40th Anniversary of the first ISB Convention “Chicago ‘84” that I had the privilege to organize and host at Northwestern University in 1984. This photo is from the performance of an ISB Composition Contest winning work by Marc Satterwhite for an orchestra of 10 basses, one solo bass, soprano and narrator. It was premiered on the Grand Finale concert of that convention on this day, 40 years ago, with an illustrious line up of bassists!!! Can you identify them all? This convention was the beginning of a great legacy of conventions that the ISB has produced that has greatly impacted the entire profession.
