Like any good school, we update materials as exciting new advances and tools are made available. However, we will never deconstruct what makes the Montessori Method so special – providing an environment where children are invited to touch, feel, solve, create, fix, share, grow, ask, wonder and achieve. There are no step-by-step teaching formulas or pedagogical absolutes in the Montessori philosophy or at La Prima Casa. 🕊️🇮🇹 During Italian class, our Lower and Upper Elementary Montessori students came together in the La Prima Casa garden to celebrate Peace Day and explore what “pace” (“peace” in Italian) means to them.

Inspired by the Italian song “È Pace,” students recited some of its lines and created beautiful banners reflecting the simple ideas behind the words: friendship, kindness, helping others, and the joy of being together.

A beautiful reminder that peace is not just something we talk about - it is something we practice every day, in the way we treat one another. 🤍

🍎🍂 Fall has made its way into La Prima Casa Montessori classrooms!

After learning all about apples and the signs of fall, Ms. Maria’s students put their learning into action with a very special Practical Life activity: making apple turnovers! 🥧🍎

With the help of one of our wonderful moms, the children measured, sliced, mixed, rolled, filled and prepared their own delicious treats. The best part, they were using all their senses along the way - feeling the dough, smelling the apples and spices, watching the transformation and tasting the final creation.

In Montessori, cooking is much more than making something to eat. It gives children meaningful opportunities to practice concentration, coordination, sequencing, independence, fine-motor skills and following a process from beginning to end. It also gives them the satisfaction of creating something with their own hands and contributing to their classroom community.

This is what learning looks like when the lesson comes alive. ❤️🍎

🌎🕊️ Peace begins with the child.

Yesterday, our La Prima Casa Montessori community came together to celebrate Peace Day Around the World - and what a beautiful celebration it was. 💙

For weeks, our students have been practicing, creating, learning and preparing for this special presentation. This week, they took the stage and reminded all of us what peace can look like when we start with the simplest things: respecting one another, helping, listening, sharing and caring for our community.

As Ms. Liley, our Arts Teacher and the producer of this year’s program, shared:

“In the Montessori philosophy, we believe that peace begins with the child. When children learn to respect one another, help each other, listen, share, and care for their community, they are learning the foundations of a peaceful world.”

Our Primary and Lower Elementary students sang and shared meaningful quotes about peace, while our Upper Elementary students brought their energy to the stage with singing and drums. The Elementary students also created all the beautiful decorations for the event.

Peace around the world can feel like a very big idea. But our children reminded us that it begins much closer to home - with a kind word, a helping hand, a smile, and the understanding that we are all part of one human family. 🌎❤️

We are incredibly proud of every student who participated and helped make this celebration so special.

Thank you to our wonderful students, parents, teachers, administration and staff for making this day possible.

A special thank you to Mr. Gabriel, our Music Teacher, and Ms. Liley, our Arts Teacher, who produced this beautiful program.

This morning, our students came together for a final rehearsal for our International Peace Day Assembly next week. Through music, speaking, and working together, they’re preparing to celebrate a Montessori value that is part of everyday life in our classrooms: peace through respect, cooperation, and understanding. ☮️🌎

Today at La Prima Casa Montessori, our children began a special tradition - decorating their shirts for International Peace Day. ☮️🎨👕

As they painted, created, and added their own personal touches, they were preparing for something much bigger than a celebration. They were preparing to come together as a community and reflect on what it means to live with kindness, respect, compassion, and understanding. 🌎🤍

Because in Montessori, we believe that education is not only about preparing children for the world - it is about helping them create a better one.

🍎🍂 Waiting for fall in Miami looks a little different.

In Ms. Maria’s class, the children have been watching their calendar and looking for signs of the season. They learned that farther north, cooler weather means certain fruits are ready to be picked - including apples.

So apples became the focus of their own classroom exploration.

The children practiced the careful movements needed to pick an apple without damaging the tree: push, twist, and pull.They explored the parts of an apple, read sentences about apples, listened to apple-themed stories, created apple crafts, and used their senses to investigate this familiar fruit in new ways. And there is more to come: apple turnovers are next!

In Ms. Frida’s class, the exploration continued with tasting different apples and making homemade applesauce together. 👩‍🍳🍎

This is what hands-on learning looks like at La Prima Casa Montessori - a simple apple becomes an opportunity to practice movement, language, sensorial skills, practical life, science, and independence.

Children learn best when they can touch, taste, explore, create, and discover - and every seasonal activity is an opportunity to connect classroom learning with the world around them.

As we get ready to celebrate Dr. Maria Montessori’s 156th birthday on Monday, August 31, our students at La Prima Casa Montessori are discovering the woman behind the philosophy - and finding inspiration in her legacy.

In Ms. Maria’s class, students are reading about Maria Montessori and exploring the beautiful connection between growing a child and growing a tulip. They are learning about the special “Maria Montessori Tulip,” a tulip variety created in the Netherlands in honor of the 150th anniversary of Dr. Montessori’s birth. 🌷

Just as a tulip needs the right care, patience, space, light, and nourishment to flourish, children need a nurturing environment where they can develop naturally, at their own pace. It’s a beautiful reflection of one of Montessori’s most enduring ideas: the child has an inner potential that unfolds when given the right environment.

Inspired by what they’re learning, our students are expressing their creativity through beautiful tulip paintings. 🎨🌷

And during art class with Ms. Liley, our Upper Elementary students are celebrating Montessori’s birthday and legacy by creating sketches of her portrait - connecting with the remarkable educator whose ideas continue to influence children around the world. 156 years later, Maria Montessori’s vision is still blooming.

Happy birthday, Dr. Montessori! Thank you for reminding us to see not only who children are today, but who they are becoming. ❤️
