On Saturday, August 29, South Florida’s top hospitality and tourism business leaders joined our dedicated teachers and CTE staff for the annual Academy of Hospitality and Tourism (AOHT) Strategic Planning Board Retreat! 🤝📊
It was an incredible day of collaboration, strategic planning, and shared vision as education and industry partners teamed up to gear up for the 2026–2027 school year. By mapping out new opportunities, real-world experiences, and career pathways, this amazing board is ensuring our AOHT students are ready to lead the future of South Florida’s world-class tourism industry! 🌊💼

SYIP Intern Spotlight: Jared Pereira

Meet Jared Pereira, a rising senior at Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial High School, who is spending his summer interning with the Property Accounting Department at Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

Throughout his internship, Jared has enjoyed learning about property management processes, documentation, and citations while gaining firsthand experience in a professional office environment. Every day brings new opportunities to expand his knowledge and develop valuable workplace skills.

After high school, Jared hopes to pursue a career as an attorney. He believes the experience he’s gaining this summer—from attention to detail to understanding policies and procedures—will provide a strong foundation as he works toward achieving his career goals.
The Summer Youth Internship Program empowers students to explore careers, build confidence, and gain real-world experience that lasts far beyond the summer.

SYIP Intern Spotlight: Pablo Mojica

Meet Pablo Mojica, a rising senior at Coral Gables Senior High School, who is spending his summer interning with the Payroll Department at Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

Pablo says his internship has been an amazing experience. Not only has he enjoyed being part of a professional team, but he’s also gained confidence while learning valuable workplace skills and seeing how an essential district department operates.

Although Pablo plans to pursue a career in Sports Management after graduation, he knows the communication, professionalism, and workplace experience he’s gaining this summer will help him succeed wherever his career takes him.

The Summer Youth Internship Program is about more than just a summer job—it’s about building confidence, developing transferable skills, and preparing students for future success.

SYIP Intern Spotlight: Victoria Serrano & Genesis Estrada

Two students. Two unique journeys. One incredible opportunity.

This week we’re recognizing Victoria Serrano, a student at Miami Palmetto Senior High School, and Genesis Estrada, a student at Coral Gables Senior High School, who are spending their summer interning with the Community Partnerships and Business Office at Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

Victoria is a natural leader who enjoys editing and has discovered how much she loves the work she’s doing through her internship. Her creativity and leadership shine as she contributes to meaningful projects.

For Genesis, every day is a chance to learn something new. She enjoys coming to work, meeting new people, and gaining experiences that will help shape her future.

The Summer Youth Internship Program gives students the opportunity to build professional skills, explore career pathways, and discover what they’re capable of in a real-world workplace.
