๐Ÿ›‘ Greater than 95% of the decisions your kids make about liking a food are made BEFORE they ever taste the food!

This means that they either don't like the idea ๐Ÿ’ก of the food or don't like something about the way the food looks ๐Ÿ‘€ or smells ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿผ. It is your job to investigate what it is that they don't like- because maybe they don't even know.

Your best tactic here is to start asking questions โ“โ“โ“ and make them observe the food- color, texture, shape, smell and anything else you can think of.

โญ๏ธAsk them if anyone they know likes this particular food- many times kids will eat something if someone they admire, like a sibling, a great friend or a superhero ๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™€๏ธ , likes the same food.
After they have brought some mindfulness to the food, they now will be less impulsive about their decision.

โญ๏ธAsk them to taste the food and tell you about it. Again, questions here are your key to negotiations.

Even if they end up not eating the food, feel proud that you opened up a mindful conversation and eliminated an impulsive decision ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Have you ever heard the saying "eating your feelings"?

This is legit the definition of being an emotional eater ๐Ÿคฉ

Do you have one of these eaters in your houseโ“โ“โ“

๐Ÿฅ’You will notice that they always have a reason to be eating and most of the time it is NOT because they are hungry.
๐Ÿ’ They will talk about food a lot and may even sneak food when no one is watching.
๐Ÿ‹Their thought is that food makes everything better, even something that is already good!

You have to be strategic when dealing with an emotional eater. You have to ask a lot of questionsโ“ about how they are feeling to help them connect their feelings with their actions.

LMK in the comments if you know any emotional eaters ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

I have my own confession- I stole this saying from one of my MOMS Club members named Stephanie. Her name has not been hidden to protect her identity ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿคฉ

Stephanie has 2 boys and they often have friends over to play at her house. She has the usual pantry full of "let me not be the lame house" packaged snacks ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฅจ๐ŸŸ.

A few weeks ago her kids had friends over and they were playing video games ๐ŸŽฎ. Stephanie went to her kitchen, chopped up a bunch of multicolored raw vegetables- carrots ๐Ÿฅ•, peppers ๐ŸŒถ, & cucumbers ๐Ÿฅ’ and placed them on a platter in front of where her kids and their friends were playing. Wait it gets betterโ€ฆ

Now here is the GENIUS part. Stephanie went, delivered the food, turned around, walked away and said....ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ๐Ÿ™Š๐Ÿ™Š๐Ÿ™Š๐Ÿ™Š๐Ÿ™Š๐Ÿ™Š!!!!!!

She didn't say
๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ "hey kids here's a snack for you"or
๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ"I cut up some healthy veggies for you all to eat" or even
๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผโ€if you eat these then you can have something from the fun pantry"

She said NOTHING.

30 mins later Stephanie came back to the TV room to find the plate EMPTY.

Can you guess what she said? Once again Stephanie said NOTHING!!!!
Not "wow guys I'm so proud of you for eating these"or "hey did you like the veggies I cut up"" ...NADA.

So the theory is this- if you say NOTHING you are taking away your kids' power to accept or reject what you are giving them, there is no discussion positive or negative, it's just food and it's just there. No tantrum if you don't want to eat it and no party if you do.

I told you, GENIUS ๐Ÿค“. The next time your kids have friends over I challenge you to channel your inner Stephanie, cut up some veggies or fruit, etc and say NOTHING.

100% TRUTH! โœ…โœ…โœ…

Taste buds ๐Ÿ‘…have a memory. That memory gets programmed from very early on and has the ability to remember hundreds of different flavors.

Even if your kids get picky around 3 years old and narrow their acceptance of certain foods, do not stress. They are not rejecting the flavors, they are most likely asserting their independence, trying to get your attention or something of the sort.

Their memory bank still holds all of those wonderful flavor memories ๐ŸŒฎ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿฅช๐Ÿ—๐Ÿง† in storage and one day soon they will start to be able to eat those foods again. Hooray!!! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

How often do you get to be FUN MOM โ“โ“โ“

My answer is NOT NEARLY ENOUGH!!!

Momming is the best job and toughest job all at the same time.

And when you add in there the responsibility of having to deal with everything that feeding them entails, it can feel OVERWHELMING ๐Ÿ™ƒ.

๐Ÿ”…food shopping
๐Ÿ”…meal planning
๐Ÿ”…meal prepping
๐Ÿ”…cooking
๐Ÿ”…dealing with all of your different eaters: picky, FOMO, overeaters, emotional eaters, etc
๐Ÿ”…the list goes on โ€ฆ

Then you have the food related issues to deal with:
๐Ÿ”…growth & development
๐Ÿ”…weight management
๐Ÿ”…food & mood
๐Ÿ”…to name a fewโ€ฆ

So when is it time to let loose and be FUN MOM?

Just remember that not everyday is a war to be won. Although sometimes it may seem like a daily battle ๐Ÿ˜ฌ itโ€™s not. Stay the course, be a good role model and your kids will be A-OK ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ

๐Ÿ’กSelf esteem is the confidence in your own worth or abilities.

For example: I am strong, I am smart, I am compassionate, I am dedicated, etc.

If you notice, self esteem focuses on the positive parts about who you are or what you are good at.

๐Ÿ’กSelf acceptance is something different. It is the acceptance of your attributes whether they are positive OR negative.

This one is a little trickier.

If you are struggling with your food or your body, can you fully accept yourself behaving or looking a way that does not make you happy? The answer is YESโ€ผ๏ธโ€ผ๏ธโ€ผ๏ธ

Accepting yourself as you are without judgement is your first step towards getting the body that you want. Just because you accept yourself does not mean you are complacent and cannot evolve.

It is quite the opposite, from ACCEPTANCE comes the greatest EVOLUTION ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Shhh ๐Ÿ™Š I used to do this on the sneak.

When my kids weren't looking I would take the goody bags they got at a birthday party, throw away the candy and keep the chocolate and toys.

To me candy ๐Ÿญ has absolutely no value and whatever joy it may bring is ofset by the potential risk of cavities ๐Ÿฆท and spike in blood sugar ๐Ÿ’‰ so it just does not make sense for me โŒโŒโŒ

They never noticed, or if they did I would play dumb, distract them and they would forget about it 2 seconds later.

As they got older I would explain to them why I don't like candy and why I would like them to filter out the goody bag or Halloween candy or whatever.

Now that they are "older" at 9 and 11 years old they do this practice themselves without me even asking, and Emilia is on board to do it as well. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

This is part of what I like to call
๐Ÿคฉ Flexibility with Boundaries ๐Ÿคฉ
โ€œYes you are welcome to enjoy the treats in your goody bag, but let's eliminate the candy first. โ€œ

FAKE NEWS! ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„

This may sound weird, but I have heard this statement more times than I care to share.

Plant based meals ๐Ÿฅ• are a little bit more accepted now, but a few years ago the majority of the population was a little more judgemental of vegetarian options. They were considered "not as good as meat ๐Ÿฅฉ ", when in fact they are oftentimes much more nutritious than their four legged counterparts.

Here's a list of my favorite plant based proteins and their nutritional breakdown. Other than their protein content, I want you to notice the amount of fiber they all have- something only found in plants, not in animals.

Most adults and kids get way more protein than their daily requirement, but sadly most consume too little fiber, so every gram counts!

๐ŸŒŸ1/2 cup cooked beans- 7g protein and 5g fiber
๐ŸŒŸ2 TBSP peanut butter- 8g protein and 2g fiber
๐ŸŒŸ3 oz tempeh- 16g protein and 7g fiber
๐ŸŒŸ1/2 cup quinoa- 8g protein and 5g fiber
๐ŸŒŸ1 TBSP nutritional yeast- 8g protein and 3g fiber.

These are all foods you could easily have in the same day. If you add up all of the protein in these serving sizes you get 47g protein๐Ÿคฉ - that's the same amount as in 7oz steak!!!

And BONUS at the same time you get 22g fiber (kids require about 25g per day and adults should hit 30g/day). Now that's food for thought!!

โœ…Cauliflower rice
โœ…Roasted chickpeas
โœ…Portobello mushroom burgers
โœ…Palmini noodles
โœ…Cauliflower pizza crust and more!

These are a few of the convenience food hacks I have at home at all times. ๐Ÿ˜

Of course making all of your meals from scratch is ideal, but who has time?! ๐Ÿคฏ Unfortunately, not me. โŒ

So when I have the time to cook from scratch I do, but when I don't, I have learned to use these convenience food hacks and fashion them into a semi-homemade meal for my family and feel just as proud.
