Good morning, Framily! If you have an upcoming Senior (or Junior) student this year or you know one who has not met their Florida graduation requirements, either the 10th Grade ELA FAST or the Algebra 1 EOC, PLEASE, PLEASE do not wait until it's too late to get them HELP!

After working with a couple of students lately, I realized that alot of the upcoming Seniors took Algebra 1 during the pandemic (COVID). They did not receive the instruction needed to pass the Algebra 1 EOC and no students failed that year and were passed to Geometry without the basic Algebra skills.

The Algebra 1 EOC covers 40 different standards! The students who took Algebra 1 "this year" had a state passing rate of 50% and they were actually taught/learned the material "this year"! Passing a "retake" when you do not have the basics of Algebra 1 is very difficult. However, there are alternate assessments that can be used to satisfy the ELA and Algebra 1 EOC requirements such as the ACT Test! The Bright Futures Scholarship ACT, SAT, PERT testing deadline for 2020-21 high school graduates has been extended to December 1, 2021. Please contact your high school counselor to discuss the test score and service hour eligibility requirements addressed in the April 9, 2021, FLDOE Emergency Order. High school seniors are still required to submit the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) no later than August 31, 2021 even if all requirements have not yet been achieved.
