La Plume Young Writers’ Contest is calling children and youth inspired to write. Application Deadline is May 31st, 2023.

Coconut Grove, FL. The 13th annual La Plume Young Writers’ Contest is now accepting applications from Miami-Dade County students in grades 3-12. Writers may submit their story online on a theme of their choice relevant to their age and grade level. The Grand Prize winners will have their story published as a printed, audio and digital book, as a narrative video on an excerpt, will get individualized editing workshops, and receive up to $350, depending on the level.

In each level (Elementary, Middle School, High School) a Grand Prize, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place is granted, plus Honorary, Achievement and Encouragement awards. Depending on the placement, cash prizes, plaques, medals and/or certificates are offered. Grand Prize winners have their original manuscript published as a book. Grand Prize and 1st Place winners each have a video clip made on an excerpt of their story. An online Editing Workshop session is offered to the Grand Prize, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place winners. Each completed final edit is compiled in an ebook and an audiobook narrated by the author. Online Writing classes are offered to the other recipients.

Students will write their stories during the summer to be submitted by August 17th (1st day of Miami-Dade County Public Schools) for review by a panel of judges from the literary, educational and the art world. The award ceremony, free and open to the public, is held early December.

We build a community and a family. Every year, we have returning students with different backgrounds and cultures we continue to nurture by offering them Creative Writing Workshops. They learn to better themselves, become more creative, and their improvement is remarkable. ”
