"Research shows that students who used computers at school performed worse academically and that information is better retained when read on paper." "Education experts say there’s a significant difference between educating students about technology and completely relying on educational technology." Parents are also concerned about the teacher-student relationship and the importance of a human teaching the kids. When National organizations representing administrators talk about the "need to prepare students for employers who expect students to be fluent with digital tools and artificial intelligence", are they also basing their thoughts on science? How should we educate out children? Any child can be fluent in AI and digital tools, and still be taught by a teacher, use books and learn to write on paper. That would give them more tools! I believe our kids need to be critical thinkers, have creative minds, come up with their our conclusions, and develop social conections before they learn to use AI. We don't want AI to think for them. We want out kids to be able to function if the computer is out of service.
Parents opt kids out of school computers, insisting on pen-and-paper instead
A loose network of parents are teaching one another how to get their kids off of school-issued Chromebooks and iPads.
