A true businessperson also knows when it's time to move on and close a business. From announcing our thanks for celebrating the grand re-opening of our café, shortly after, now I have to announce the closing of our online freelancing marketplace:
Working on a project for over 3 years instead of 6 months, due to unforseen delays, an abrupt paradigm shift to A.I., and a few other matters beyond our control, Wolfgang and I, the founders and owners of the very first and only freelancing platform in the world catering to people with disabilities, would like to thank everyone that not only supported us all the way for the business, but also those who supported the cause. BrainNForce LLC was conceived shortly after my 28th birthday, when I hit a low point in my life. Wolfgang took it very seriously and insisted he help me with starting out my first official business. I remember that day very well, in early Spring 2020 — we drove to a park in Santa Monica, California, and, he promised me he'd help me when I admitted that I was struggling to make it in the United States. He didn't just see my potential, he actually acted on it.
Living and loving someone on the Autism spectrum is not easy. Wolfgang Wagenknecht made it clear to me that he'd support me, also because he saw very clearly how the effects of my past life, growing up, left a mark on my persona. Regardless if price is no object, there are no guarantees that the tutors you hire have a heart to teach, let alone, don't become physically and verbally hostile towards you. That is why we got rid of all "disability" certifications, because being certified in a subject, and actually having the patience and love to mentor someone from the disability community are two different things.
BrainNForce LLC, from start to finish — with 98% of the graphic designs and 100% of the animations done by myself with guidance from Wolfgang — was established as a result of my experiences, living with "invisible disabilities." I wanted to give the chance for people with disabilities to find work, and to work on their own time, and to connect those with a heart to teach, with those who learn differently.
There is still very much left to be said, but in these last few days of www.brainnforce.com before the site — in the state that it is — goes away, I'd like to thank everyone who has consistently supported us all the way with your time and energy, and nothing else in return. Marc Stephenson, L, and Angelique Lusuan, Thank You for being our biggest supporters.
The conception and development of BrainNForce tossed me into the deep end of the pool from the beginning, and made up for the time I lost during my years spent in academia, to build up many missing skills outside of that framework. Now BrainNForce can live on in my other projects. With this first iteration of "The BrainNForce Experience," it's safe to say that this is still a win because it formed within me a mindset that no educational institution could ever teach, as everything took place in The School of Life. And, regardless of everything, we still did it: we built it. The platform exists, and I walk away also with the satisfaction of knowing that I even tried and did it.
BrainNForce will be resurrected at some point in time, but in a new form. Stay-tuned.
