The Explorer friends have been enjoying lots of sensory experiences! Here they are seen manipulating a flour mixture, using little branches and flower petals.
The focus and facial expressions are so telling of their meaningful experience. What a fun way to celebrate Tu B’shevat!

Children are innately creative and innovative.
Z was using a pair of scissors freely, she cut her paper in a spiral shape, enjoying the process. She then noticed she created a long strip out of the sheet of paper, and together with her friend they had the great idea to use it as a jump rope.

Lots of fine motor fun in the Investigators Class today!

Colored cups? No, they’re goggles! The friends love open ended materials because they can get creative and use them for so many different things.

The friends love to explore and interact with the materials in the sensory bin in their own creative ways.
It’s astounding how many skills sensory bins enhance, aside from the obvious sensory benefits. Pouring and scooping works on fine motor and pre writing skills, children learn to communicate when using the bins with others, and sensory bins even help children regulate their emotions!

“Morah, guess which letter I made!” -J
Open play leads to organic learning. Here, J used the blocks to make different letters, entirely unprompted! When children are given the freedom to learn and explore through play, they are more motivated and interested in learning, enhancing their mastery of academic concepts.

On Rosh Hashana we blow the shofar. What is the shofar? Where does it come from? How is it made? What sound does it make? Join us for a pre Rosh Hashana shofar factory with your family. Children will watch a shofar maker create a shofar, learn where it comes from, enjoy a dinner, and create their very own shofar to take home.
RSVP at midtownjewish.org/shofarfactory to ensure enough materials for your children
