It is so hard to believe we are 7 months into a global health crisis. What we thought would be a temporary transition to online learning has evolved into a new way of presenting our lessons. Thanks to all the parents whose support and willingness to make the necessary adjustments helped our students have the optimal music education experience.
I have been asked whether or not I am re-opening, since schools seem to be headed that way. I have maintained that as long as social distancing guidelines are place, it is unrealistic – and unsafe – for us to offer our classes and lessons in person. Singing is not a practical option, since masks would be necessary; instruments could not be shared; and children would not receive the full impact of a music class the way they can online. Since we have a completely safe option in learning online, I don’t think it makes sense to offer a choice that limits what I consider to be a vital and important experience that helps to develop the young child in so many ways. While being in the same space as your children and engaging with them as I have traditionally done would be ideal, my concern for their health and safety is my highest priority.
With a full heart, I will not be renewing my lease at 211 NE 98th Street and will move out of the studio on October 31st. All classes and lessons will continue online. Although we long for and miss many aspects of in-person learning, the experience of learning music online has actually been amazing and the progress of our piano students, especially, has been remarkable!
Since bringing early childhood music to Miami Shores in 2008, I have met so many fantastic families! I am incredibly honored to have been the first teacher to so many babies in our community and I’ve watched them grow each year. I have seen piano students graduate and go on to begin their exciting young lives. Still, I feel that I have much work to do and want to help so many, yet, as with so much of our world today, it must be done in a different way for now. Even though we are physically apart, I still feel close to all of my students!
I look forward to the day that the pandemic is over and social distancing guidelines are no longer in effect. In the meantime, I look forward to building my online presence and serving a wider, global audience. The future is bright and full of potential for all of us!
Thank you for all of your support, and I love you all!
