⚫⚪ Newcastle United is hiring a goalkeeper-focused Positional Scouting Analyst!

The role: analysing goalkeepers on video (and live when required), creating clips and reports aligned with the club’s positional profiles, and identifying new targets to move quickly through the recruitment workflow, working closely with the Head of Scouting Analysis, the data team and international scouts.

The club is looking for someone comfortable with tools like Wyscout, Hudl or Sportscode, with a strong eye for player potential (including emerging talent) and experience in an elite football or sports environment. Progress towards the FA Talent ID qualification is a plus.

Good to know: the position is UK-based and requires proof of the right to live and work in the UK, with no sponsorship.

Want to become a video analyst in professional football (soccer)? Before you send your first analysis video to a club, make sure it checks the right boxes.

A staff doesn’t judge your enthusiasm, it judges your work. This carousel gives you 5 questions to test your video: a high, wide, stable camera angle, 2 or 3 analysis focus areas at most, a short compilation of 8 to 12 clips, clear annotations (arrows, highlighted zones, text), and a balance between mistakes and what’s working.

Scouting young players is harder than it looks. 🎯

Physical maturity can easily be mistaken for talent — especially at youth level.

Here are 3 habits every scout should develop:

1️⃣ Look beyond the birth date.
A few months can create a major physical advantage at certain ages.

2️⃣ Don’t confuse physical development with potential.
A player who is smaller or less mature today may still have the higher ceiling.

3️⃣ Evaluate the trajectory, not just the performance.
One match is a snapshot. What matters is how the player develops over time.

Great scouting isn’t just about identifying who performs today.
It’s about understanding who they can become tomorrow.
