Day 9- Routines, routines, routines!

Going to bed around the same time each night, as well as getting up with enough time to get yourself ready for the day, creates a routine for success!

Now is a great time to get your bookbag ready to go, pick out your first-day clothes, and set your alarm for school!

Congrats to Mrs. Holman and Ms. Thoenen, who were recipients of $500 grants from the Missouri Retired Teachers Association (MRTA).

Mrs. Holman will expand ideas and creativity with a multicolored 3D printer.

Ms. Thoenen, will establish a future forecast and weather station in her classroom.

We had three Mexico teachers among 98 recipients from around the state. Audrain County retired teachers Maureen Hacker, Jennifer Silver, and Susan Atkins presented the award today alongside Mary Ridge, representing MRTA.

The MRTA Foundation, the charitable division of MRTA, awards classroom grants to educators across the state each year. MRTA represents more than 113,000 public school retirees and has over 30,000 active members.

Day 6- Dress for success! Dress code reminders

Our goal is to provide a safe, welcoming, and focused learning environment that prepares students for success both in school and in their future workplaces.

This includes making sure that clothing covers undergarments and private areas, refraining from wearing any clothing that could be considered vulgar, obscene, or promote illegal substances, and removing anything that could partially or completely cover the face.

We are so proud of Coach Bates, named a 2026 Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Missouri Society of Health and Physical Educators (MOSHAPE).

Bates began her teaching career at Mexico Middle School during the 2020-21 school year after graduating from college.

“I really love the relationships I get to make with not only my students and athletes, but my coworkers as well,” Bates said. “It’s rewarding to watch them grow, gain confidence and realize they are capable of more than they thought they were.”

Bates credits fellow PE teacher and mentor Coach Breneman with helping build a strong physical education program at MMS. Together, they focus on making fitness purposeful and enjoyable while introducing students to a variety of activities. This past year, that included adding floor hockey, which quickly became a student favorite.

“I’m really proud of the PE program that Coach Breneman and I have built,” Bates said. “We have worked to create an atmosphere where the kids enjoy being while making sure the games and activities are fitness-oriented and purposeful.”

Bates’ recognition is for the East Central District region, one of five in Missouri. MOSHAPE recognizes teachers for outstanding contributions to health and physical education, including high-quality programming, effective teaching practices, and advocacy for the profession.

Bates said receiving the statewide recognition is especially meaningful because it reflects the work being done with students each day. “When I found out, I felt honored and grateful,” Bates said. “It meant a lot to know that the work I put into my students and athletes, as well as our school community, was noticed and appreciated.”

Way to go, Coach Bates!
