Learning is full of challenges and obstacles. Encouragement from families, rather than pressure, helps children face them. If your child feels stressed in the coming year, show that you care. Be available to listen. Respect your child's feelings, and explain that mistakes are just learning opportunities. Then, help your child develop positive study habits. When studying is routine, it's easier to deal with the pressures of increasing workloads.

Children can face the challenges and obstacles of school and life better when they feel encouraged, rather than pressured, by their families.

Candler County Schools and the SWIRL Council hosts literacy events throughout the summer and the school year. Many of these events are targeted to children that are 0-5 years old, which is a crucial time for them to learn the basics of sounds, words, etc. Sign up today so we can email you (or text if you wish) when we are hosting these events!

School is ON as scheduled.
Metter Middle School had a small fire in the weight room this morning, but it has been extinguished and the area is sealed off. We will be having school as scheduled today.

The school is safe. Smoke is contained in the gym and we will relocate classes while the minimal fire damage and smoke are being addressed. The area will remain sealed off as a safety measure while cleanup takes place.

We are appreciative of our first responders, along with Brad Jones of D & S Electric, who were on the scene quickly and extinguished the fire and kept our school safe.

Combining reading and creative activities develops your elementary schooler's imagination and keeps the reading interesting. Encourage your child to draw pictures of characters or scenes from a favorite story. You can also ask your child to make up songs about stories and books. For example, ask, "What might the three little pigs sing when the wolf is coming? How would the music sound?"

The Candler County Literacy Council would like to introduce our new parents to our Tiny Tiger Cub Club Program--a program designed to help families access literacy resources that support babies in building a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

The Tiny Tiger Cub Club recognizes students with new siblings as important literacy and learning role models.
Participating Tiny Tiger Cub Club families will receive a certificate honoring the student, along with simple ideas for how they can support early reading at home.

Families will also receive information about our Birth to 3 programs, as well as books and other resources to encourage early language development and growth.
If you have a student at one of our schools and they have a new baby brother or new baby sister, please ask them to tell their teacher so the teacher can notify our Tiny Tiger Cub Club coordinator.

TOMORROW IS THE DEADLINE!!

📣 Calling All Future Cheerleaders! 📣

The Metter High School Varsity Sideline & Competitive Cheerleaders are excited to host the 2026 Wee Cheer Clinic for girls in Pre-K through 5th grade! Come learn cheers, dances, jumps, stunts, and more while supporting the MHS Cheerleading Program!

📅 Clinic: September 1–3
⏰ 3:00–5:15 P
📍 MMS Gym
💲 Cost: $65 per child
📝 Registration & payment deadline: August 19 (forms and payment can be made to any MHS Cheerleader, or given to your child's homeroom teacher, or to the MES front office)

Wee Cheer participants will perform for family and friends on Thursday, September 3 at 5:30 PM in the MMS Gym and will also cheer before the MHS home football game on Friday, September 4! 🏈📣

Registration includes:
⭐ Snacks & drinks each day
⭐ Wee Cheer T-shirt
⭐ Cheerleading instruction from MHS Varsity Cheerleaders
⭐ 1–2 cheers and a dance
⭐ Motions, jumps, basic stunts & tumbling
⭐ Friday night football performance
⭐ Free game admission for the participant + one parent

MES Parents:Wee Cheer participants will have a special dismissal procedure on clinic days and will be escorted by MHS Cheerleaders to the MMS Gym. Pickup will be at 5:15 PMmat the interior entrance to the MMS Gym.

👟 Participants should wear a T-shirt, shorts, socks, and sneakers each day.

We are so excited to welcome some new and familiar faces to Metter Elementary School!

Some are brand new to MES. Some aren’t exactly new—but this year, they’re stepping into classrooms of their very own! Some are returning to the place they already know and love.

Among this incredible group we have some MHS graduates coming home to serve their community, paraprofessionals who have worked hard to become certified teachers, familiar faces stepping into new roles, and new faces bringing their talents to Metter.

Their paths to MES may look different, but they all have one very special thing in common: They’re Metter Tigers. 🐅

We can’t wait for you to get to know the people who will be loving, teaching, challenging, and cheering for our students this year.
