MHS/MCCA FBLA and Shepeard Blood Center will be hosting a blood drive on Friday, August 28 on the Bloodmobile buses in front of the high school from 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome!

Donors should be sure to eat a nutritious breakfast and drink lots of water on the day of the blood drive. Additionally, donors should begin now eating iron rich foods in their meals to help avoid low iron which eliminates a person from donating.

Students must be at least 16 years of age, meet height and weight requirements, AND have parent permission to donate blood. Morning donors will receive a free breakfast item. And all blood donors will receive snacks and a free piece of Shepeard Blood Center swag while supplies last.

Additionally, students who donate (must be 16 and have parent consent) OR who recruit donors on their behalf three times during one school year will earn a Red Cord to wear at graduation. This is our FIRST blood drive of the year, so this is your first chance to work toward earning that Red Cord for this school year!!! If you are supporting a student, please fill out the student card when you give blood!

Our goal is to have at least 75 people present to be blood donors on Friday, August 28.

Remember each blood donation saves up to three lives!

The Candler County Board of Education tentatively accepted the recommended rollback millage rate of 12.363 mills during its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, August 20, 2026. The proposed rate represents a decrease from the previous millage rate of 13.987 mills to 12.363 mills.

The rollback rate is the millage rate calculated to generally produce the same property tax revenue as the previous year from existing properties, after accounting for changes in property values. The Board’s tentative acceptance is not the final adoption of the millage rate. The Candler County Board of Education will consider and vote on the final millage rate at its next scheduled meeting on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.

Please note the Board of Education meeting time change: The September 17 meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. due to the Metter High School Homecoming Parade, which will be held at 4:30 p.m. that afternoon in downtown Metter.

🚑 A Special Thank You to Our Community Partners! 🧡🖤

Candler County Schools would like to express our sincere gratitude to Candler County Administrator Bryan Aasheim, EMS Director Xavier Winkler, and our local EMS team for working diligently to ensure an ambulance and medical staff were on hand during yesterday’s MHS Softball and MMS Football games.

With the extreme heat we’ve been experiencing, having trained medical professionals on site was especially important. Unfortunately, we did experience several heat-related incidents during the games, and our EMS staff was there to quickly provide care when needed.

Even when they weren’t actively treating someone, the EMS team continued to monitor our athletes and spectators and provide an extra layer of support throughout the events.

We are incredibly thankful for the partnership between Candler County Schools and Candler County and for the people who go above and beyond to help keep our students, staff, families, and community safe.

Thank you for being there when we needed you! 🚑👏

School is ON as scheduled.
Metter Middle School had a small fire in the weight room this morning, but it has been extinguished and the area is sealed off. We will be having school as scheduled today.

The school is safe. Smoke is contained in the gym and we will relocate classes while the minimal fire damage and smoke are being addressed. The area will remain sealed off as a safety measure while cleanup takes place.

We are appreciative of our first responders, along with Brad Jones of D & S Electric, who were on the scene quickly and extinguished the fire and kept our school safe.
