WOOOO! Halfway through the first full week of the year.

January 5th: There are 7 common dairy cow breeds in the US. The most common breed is Holsteins, which are black and white.

January 6th: Female dairy cattle who have not yet had a calf are called heifers. A heifer is called a cow after she gives birth to her first calf.

January 7th: All female cows must have a calf to produce milk.

Starting today, we will be posting the Ag Fact of the day each day though the month of January from the Ag in the Classroom 2026 Calendar! January is all about dairy!

January 1st: Dairy refers to the food group containing milk and milk products, including ice cream, sour cream, butter, yogurt, cheese, buttermilk, and cream cheese. Fun fact to add: Miss Emily, our coordinator, has a rare autoimmune condition called Heiners’ Syndrome, which makes her extremely allergic to dairy products.

January 2nd: Milk has every nutrient your body needs to live and is the best recovery drink after a workout. Fun fact to add: Most athletic protein powders are protein dense due to whey protein, a dairy by-product!

You do not have to be a Farm Bureau member and they are completely free!! Marti can point you in their direction!
