Girls my age miss class because they don't have a pad or tampon. I have donated over 5,000 items to local schools to keep girls in school. Did you know 1 in 5 teens don’t have access to the proper hygiene items like pads and tampons they need? Grown Women hate asking each other for a spare Pad or Tampon. We can try to calculate our days and guess when our period will start but reality is it comes
when it wants. Know imagine being 8 to 16 years old and your brain can barely remember your school books, soccer shoes, and omg that mid term paper that is worth 30% of your grade. These girls are not mature yet as much as they think they are. Although, we expect them to remember to pack there backpack full of extra pads and tampons for when there period comes. This is unrealistic on so many levels. Then add in that many of these young ladies families are struggling with other necessities like food and shelter. Let alone a extra added cost of $13.25 per menstruating female in the house. Girls at young ages are body shaming themselves for things they cant control. Then add in the struggle of OMG my parents can’t afford Milk and know I need to ask for a tampon/pad. Girls will miss school due to the lack of products available to them. Imagine if a girl missed 5 days a month do you think she would really be getting a education? She is not telling anyone the real reason she is missing school that would be to embarrassing. Other girls will use items not designed for this such as socks, napkins, and towels these can end up causing a infection and making it even worse. At this time Lilly has donated over 20,000 items to 9 schools. We use donated items to make starter kits and cycle kits. A starter kit contains 3 pads, 3 liners, 3 tampons in a colorful pencil bag case. These are designed so now one is aware that a girl is passing her friend a tampon/ pad in the middle of class. Cycle kits contains 9 liners, 28 pads, and 10 tampons. These are passed out to girls that need a bit more help and can last there whole cycle. This page was created so we can spread the word and also post ways to help keep girls in class. The last thing a girl should worry about is her period!!
